From the 1966 Gallipoli Gazette

" A " COMPANY IN THE ISLE OF MAN
On Saturday 2nd July, three officers and sixty men of "A " Company, the Band and Drums anda small detachment of "D " Company, left Liverpool for the Isle of Man to take part in the Tvnwald Ceremony the official opening of the Manx Parliament. We had known for some time that we were going, but it was only on the previous Thursday, when the seamen's strike ended, that final détails were confirmed.
We arrived at Douglas half an hour after the first ship since the beginning of the strike and unfortunately missed the civic welcome which awaited the first one. We moved to Jurby Camp a rather desolate camp situated at the north west corner of the island and started rehearsals which were to occupy practically all our time. Most of us took advantage of free evenings to visit Ramsey and Douglas, neither of which were exactly humming with life but which formed a welcome break from drill and cleaning parades. The Douglas Casino was a new experience, if an expensive one, for those who visited it.
The Manx Parliament is the oldest in the
World and considérable importance is attached to the opening ceremony carried out around Tynwald Hill. The ceremony was a colourful affair with of the British, Channel Isles and Icelandic Parliaments and the local Judiciary taking part.
The Guard of Honour was on parade for approximately two and three-quarter hours, which proved trying under the watchful eyes of the hundreds of spectators, T.V. caméras and the press. Thus by popular demand, the Battalion will be providing a Guard of Honour in September to take part in a farewell ceremony for the Lieutenant Governor who is retiring after seven years in office. The Band and Drums, in addition to playing at the ceremony, played at the Governor's Garden Party and Beat Retreat on Douglas promenade, another occasion which produced camera-clicking crowds.
