It was as if seeing Vvanderfell again had reignited the desire in him to rebuild, even though doing so now when the threat he faced remained, was utterly foolish. What good would it be to regather the individuals he had lost through his own folly if he could not protect them from the shadow that stalked him?

And yet, he still walked on.

Asmodeus reasoned that even if he did not find another familiar face, he might at least glean some gossip that would tell him where some of them went. Clearly, Marceline had not stuck around on Atlantis to claim their shared home as he had hoped that she would. Which meant that she had to be somewhere, as she was too much of a force in this world to disappear.

It was also important that he figured out where Nyimara was. And what the Lagoon was up to. And, and, and. He felt blind, having been away for so long, but there was nothing to be done for it other than to stick himself right back into the midst.

Thus, the chimera found himself in the commons on a calm spring afternoon. The breeze was brisk, but manageable, warmed by southern winds that tossed his thick mane against his chest. He settled himself on a quiet little rise so that he had a view and then lowered his muzzle to graze while his thoughts wandered and plans coalesced.
