I must have fooled them pretty good because I did move to larger markets where the news was much more interesting and there was so much to learn and new. TV's a whole different world but yes, it has its own drawbacks too. This right before the corporations bought up the KC and Wichita markets and ran em from the home office. Thats when I got out, it had become a rat race; a ND would come in and replace all the key people from his last market. And News Directors turned over every 2-3 years if they couldn't capture first place. No, no respect for media management, not an innovative mind among em except in better markets and their staffs are stable. Like ok city, STL, DFW. even Fours ND was fired, hired by a chick from Springfield who brought in HER own team then she was fired and the original was brought. It was a fucking revolving door at Taft. But the only real station was 9 and Brian's shop was stable. I'd had enough on the desk answering some girl from Springfield. Dunno what ever happen to them but I think the boss did too much coke and she was gone. Big dreams about getting a helicopter but it never came to pass. 9 really was the only place in town and I learned from Buzby there'd been an agreement not to get into news wars stealing each others staffs. They got burned swapping weathermen, I heard. It was easy to stay in town and go to work for a company wanting computer expertise so that's what I did and never went back. Usually I had an office, not a cubie, but it was full of servers, tho at the Academy of 300 people, yeah we all had cubies except for the corner managers.
So get over your trashing people in cubies. Your small town imagination runs wild, Jim! People leave you alone to work when there are no desks around. And radio studios are also full of equipment but you have to share em with the next jock on the air. Less private Probably than a kitchen table, but better than a sales bullpen full of desks with the sales manager tellin ya all to go on calls, right? You have no idea how out in left field your ideas are, Jimbo when you just guess. Replies:
