Very perceptive, Jim....but thats not the sign of a 'bad actor' as you suggest. That's an acceptable tactic for journalists to draw out a response from an interview that doesn't really want to really share. Its the opposite of a softball question.

Ask a disarming question with a false assumption, and all but the most disciplined interview subject will involuntarily switch to defensive mode and blurt out a defensive truth in their beliefs. That "backlash" as you call it, is a revelation the journalist is looking for. The journalist's interior motive is ALWAYS to get at the truth.

I can understand how a salesman might not use that tool, but a wise customer will use it on the salesman when he's being desceptive about whatever he's selling.

I never remember you saying you spent some time in Denver. Must not have been a successful time for you, Jim because Denver is a fabulous market because Colorado is a fabulous place to live.
