VALE, ROBERT JAMES 'SHORTY' HEFFERNAN AM, LOADM .... IP: 58.104.165.211 Posted on 5/2/2026 at 12:39:37 PM by Lance Haslewood
It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of Robert James 'Shorty' Heffernan AM (Loadmaster), Patron of the Airman Aircrew Association. Shorty passed at 2200 hours last night, 04 February 2026.
This news will be a shock to many as Shorty had been in reasonable health, although he did have some issues with his heart and lungs which were under control.
Last week, Bob had a fall and had fractured a hip, and it was at this point that his health rapidly declined. He was admitted to Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane where he remained under constant care with Marion and family by his side. At the time of his admittance to hospital, Bob was given just a day or two to live.
Bob, you will never be forgotten. Rest In Peace my good friend.
