Mam was acting funny and Dadaidh was worried. Her short life already seemed to be turning in its head as suddenly she was no longer a princess. Big sister Titan was gone, sometimes Dadaidh shook awake in the night sweating, and Mam was no longer the leader. She didn't understand all the sudden changes and why this other stallion in their herd now controls their fate.
Sometimes she wonders if that spotted mare and her spotted child had been the cause. She remembers seeing the them on the beach one day, gone a few moments later, and it wasn't long after Mam was no longer their leader. None of it made much sense except for the fact that she felt annoyed she could no longer call herself a princess. Dadaidh said she was still his.
Today she lays alone on the forest floor listening to the trees protect her from the rain. Her patents were already up for the day and who knows where. Mam wasn't around as much as she used to be and Dadaidh has left her alone more often lately to make sure Mam was still around. He was nervous, but he wouldn't tell her why. The seal brown yearling rises from resting spot and begins her day as she always does. Running through the forest like she owned the place.
Her giggles fill some of the silence, though muffled by the rain, as she dances in the mud puddles and dodges the trees like it was some kind of test. She was wild and dirty with mud flung up her legs. The day goes on like this only stopping to eat and drink. It was too bad the other foals were just born and not able to run the land like she was.
The afternoon comes quickly, but she had yet to see her parents today. It was odd not to at least see one since the morning, but like mentioned earlier, things were different. Brown ears perk at a call that echos from a nearby clearing. She hasn't talked to anyone today so the filly was quite eager to see what was going on.
Boudicca emerges from the Forest like the wild child she was. Her mane was a tangled mess, her body muddy, but her face was smiling as she approaches the new painted leader. "Halò!" She says not noticing anything was wrong at first. Her pace slows until she stops infront of him. Her small smile disappears when the situation finally clicks. He did not look happy and she has not seen her parents all day.
"Where is Mam?" She knew Dadaidh was still here. She could smell him on the wind he just wasn't coming out to play today. She would probably see him at nightfall for sleep time. But what about Mam? |
