Lucifer of the Dunes

Ankle deep in water that was cool, a black wraith pinched his eyes closed. The long strands of his mane softly laid upon the top of the oasis, fanning out due to the angle in which he held his head and neck. Onyx hued ears lay tight against his neck, threading righting against the tangled mess of his mane. Muscles quivered under his dark skin, speaking to the pain that had his teeth clenching.

Hearing hooves up above him, Lucifer tried his best to pull away from the soul sucking pain he was experiencing. A misstep earlier in the day had led him to where he stood now. Pain lanced his shoulder, forcing his front left leg to be useless again. He hadn't healed fully, nor would it ever considering the land he lived upon. He might have gotten used to it with his back leg, but the pulling sands were sucking whatever strength he gained in his front away.

Lifting his head slowly, the dark brute searched the top of the bowl. His crimson eyes were narrowed as pain thumped in his skull. His muscled form tried to move, to not be seen. With a stumbling step though, the stallion was forced to stay still for a bit longer. Grinding his bath teeth, he managed to move out of the water and hide most of his limp. It wasn't until he was out of the water that he realized who it was.

“Corvette.” He rumbled. Her name barely made it off of his tongue without a bite of pain, but he managed. “The pool is without predator.” Again his voice ached under the strength he tried to show. He kept his back to her now though, hiding the way his front leg spasmed. He should be showing her something other than the base of his nature, but he knew if he turned around now he would look like a demon wanting to kill something. He'd never hidden this before, but now even for a new member to his herd… he was trying to be better.
