I seriously doubt the 3pm start is to avoid overlapping Dania. Their season is almost over anyway.

It's all about the sportsbooks making the decision of the time and days they play. Outside of table tennis in other countries, there is nothing else going on at that time to bet on. Jai-alai fills in that timeframe with little competition.

There are millions of people looking to bet around the clock on something, and I assume jai-alai is getting a lot of that action between 3-6pm during the week and on Fridays at 7pm when no betting is allowed on high school football and limited action in basketball and hockey that night.

Remember, the sports books supply a vast majority of the income they get, outside of team ownerships. Friday's will have some income off of VIP seats, beverage and food sales, merchandise, etc.

Hopefully they will open the doors more often. Fifteen hundred newly covered seats empty with no crowd noise is rough.
