Re(1): Cuvet

Cuvet was definitely very talented. That is what made his court positioning all the more painful. He just seemed reckless to me. To me, he was Beheretche of the back court. You just never knew when he was going to do something and go off kilter.

I saw the Alberdi-Cuvet matchup as well, and Alberdi was one of my all time favorite players, not only for his talent, but also for his brains. But when you say "passive defense", I attribute that more to defensive less powerful players (Ecennaro, Osa, Aranburu, Andrinua), whose catching was their primary strength.

Cuvet had tremendous power, and could easily pass the frontcourter from the back, and his picada was also excellent. I am of the theory that he did not "need" to charge as often as he did. So, yes, if he was playing with a lesser front, I can see some more aggression, but if it's Arriaga, Arregui, Zen, Alberdi, or Uriarte, there is less of a need for it.

So, we don't entirely agree or disagree, but I appreciate your posts. They are well thought out, and use excellent reasoning.
