The issue isn’t so much ems, it’s the invalids. Nobody on the job now took it without knowing medical runs are a big part of the job. Being on a working truck should be a requirement for the squad to get familiar with using tools. The problem is most trucks are bls and that means invalids all day then following the ambulance all night. That’s the price you pay for experience and as we can see, that’s not a priority. The slower houses are filled with young, inexperienced ff’s that don’t plan on leaving anytime soon. The days of pride and learning the important parts of the job are almost gone. It’s even more evident by the lack of interest of getting on a squad. It was almost cutthroat at one time. I don’t understand why you need to be a diver if we have a dive unit.
