You shouldn’t expect anyone to help. I would never want anyone to risk their safety off duty. However, if you are willing to lend assistance with hose management or making a hydrant, is it too much to expect it without the phone in one hand? All the while making comments directed towards the two (pipeman and officer) on scene.
Here is where I have the issue. If a civilian is recording a video, and posting it, you’re right that is what we should come to expect. An off duty fireman purposely posted it to embarrass the company. Ask around a little bit, and you will find out who the firefighter was who posted it, and where they are assigned.
Here’s another nugget of info - the Facebook site which posted it originally, the retired member loves videos where fellow active and retired members criticize other firefighters. He loves the engagement it brings.
Obviously, you and I have different expectations from the department. A f up is a f up, in any situation. Whether the video existed or not, that doesn’t change what happened. What irritated me is this off duty fireman recording took it upon himself to upload a video to embarrass the company. 100% fact. Replies:
