It has been a while since Hiyori has felt anxiety pull and twist at her belly as it does now. Autumn has finally come. The way the trees change colors; the array of beautiful yellows, reds and oranges a telling sign, if the change in her body wasn’t enough. It also meant the change would have come to her youngest daughter, Kiyo, who was on her second year of life. Hiyori had thought of taking her beautiful daughter to the Peak, hoping they might protect her from the dangers of men. But look how well that had worked out for herself?
Knowing she could not smother Kiyo, as much as she would have liked too, Hiyori had separated herself from the filly to go for a drink. To let her graze in peace, rather than constantly being fussed over and guarded by her anxious mother. As long as she stayed in the Falls, and as long as she used her brain over her hormones, Kiyo would be safe in her mother’s absence.
Reaching a small stream, Hiyori lowered her head to the cool water and drank her fill. It was quiet at least. Perhaps too quiet? Raising her head, a few drops of water fell from her lips as she glanced around. Although she wasn’t in the Lagoon, Hiyori realized she was dangerously close to crossing the border. The reek of men seemed sudden strong, and the pale mare felt her heart flutter in a way she couldn’t explain. Turning, she aimed to return the way she’d come. Hoping to find Kiyo where she’d left her, and get away from the Lagoon before anyone noticed her.
