Tamar was a hardy creature. The raging storm did not scare her as it might another, but giving birth in the elements was a feat. Thankfully, she had known where to go for some shelter from the rain. Their son was still born under the heavy thunder and the strong winds that threaten to rip the branches from the trees.
Now that the birth was over, and the colt was moving, she had to find Ashitaka. If there was any place more safe for them to go he would know it. Plus she didn't want to do this parenting thing alone. Growing up her mother had always been in charge of everything. Eeva had kept her daughter safe even though they were on their own most of the time.
Now it was her turn to instill the same hardiness in her own children. Love, too. Tamar had always known her mother loved her dearly. Enough to sacrifice herself to guide her to safety. Tamar would do the same for her son and she had the feeling that Ashitaka would too. The only difference was that her child would have both parents to work as a family unit.
A flash of lighting suddenly reveals the stallion as he skids to a halt. Tamar instinctively rears, signaling her son back to her for safety. It was as her body lowers back to the ground that she realizes who he was. Dark ears flicker towards him in surprise until his voice calms her. She only catches the second thing he says, but it is enough to draw a smile from her.
Her eyes go back to their son as she now encourages him to towards his father. She watches Ashitaka study the child until his attention was back to her. She reaches out her muzzle to meet him half way. "I am fine." Just as the last of her words leave her mouth does the thunder crack overhead. Her first instinct is to protect their son by guiding him under her belly.
It was then that she noticed Ashitaka had taken him own protective stance around them. This makes her smile again as her eyes drop back to their foal who seems surpringly unaffected. "A tough guy already I see." She giggles. I guess her wish for her children to be hardy was already coming true. Their son would be a formidable stallion one day.
"You should name him." She says as she looks back to Ashitaka. It was only right he had the chance to name his firstborn son. |
