Yeah--I've absolutely got a lot to learn about the art of roasting, but all of my batches so far...

...have been pretty good to excellent, all pretty close to the roast level I was targetting. I tend to like City+ to Full City for most coffees. I pay very close attention to the time that elapses after the onset of the first crack, since I'm usually looking to stop a bit before the onset of the second crack.

The last batch I did did go a touch darker than I intended, though.

BTW, homebrewing is also pretty low-entry, in my experience. If you have good sanitation practices, you can make pretty darn good extract batches right out of the gate. Going whole grain obviously complicates things but opens up all the possibilities.

Of course, you need to assemble a lot more kit for homebrewing than for coffee roasting.
