Excellent performances on 4/23 by Tambor, Urreisti, and Oyhenard. Urreisti completely dominated the first half of this quinellas partido, and Tambor commanded the latter stages. Basque was rock solid and dependable as usual. Those four players now advance to the finals.
Johan/Lekerika were a bit of a disappointment as they were probably the favorites but didn't start playing well until very late in the match and barely missed out on advancing by losing on their final point of the day. I could be wrong, but Lekerika did not seem to be at full strength -- sore arm, sore back? Leke appeared to be babying his throws, particularly on the forehand side. He repeatedly failed to get his forehand throws over the head of the opposing front courter which resulted in many backhand dejada kill shots to the inside from up close to the front wall.
Garcia stood little chance with Ibarluzea as his back courter, who has very little power from either the left or the right side, and doesn't make up for those weaknesses by being a great catcher or by having a strong rebote. Of course, Garcia didn't help his own cause by overserving at least four times.
Would really love to see Argoitia participating in these tournaments. He clearly can play at a higher level than what we are witnessing from players like Ibarluzea, Manci, Zabala, etc. Argoitia should be getting the same types of opportunities that Atain is (quite deservedly) getting, especially given the fact that Argoitia outplayed Atain throughout the recent Dania season. Both of those guys are better than some of the Jai Alai League regulars. Replies:
