I pre-ordered the special edition of Kid A and listened to it the morning of October 2, 2000, from my apartment during my 1L year. Easily the most vivid music memory of my entire life. Those opening few seconds of Everything in its Right Place paralyzed me in that moment — and still do every time I hear the song…

… the other extremely vivid music memories I have are of hearing Interpol play Obstacle 1 at their album release party at Bowery Ballroom in Manhattan and queuing up Smells Like Teen Spirit for the first time in my parents basement in 1991.

The beginning of the video you shared is a little overdramatic, btw — they started recording Kid A about 19 months after they finished recording OK Computer. Several of the songs were written around the same time OK Computer was recorded or when they were touring that album. One song (National Anthem) was even intended to be a b-side for one of the OK Computer singles
