Broadcast news has always assumed new hires have been educated before they hired. Almost NEVER do radio and TV stations hold educational/training seminars to make their workers better able to pronounce or even understand the unique nature of their viewers. Most businesses invest in their workforce with classes, books, videos, seminars, team building. Not the broadcasting industry.
Even universities have majors in the craft of writing and presenting but dont' require general courses in history, politics, economics, current events and sociology/psychology as a requirement to get their media degrees. Those are the things about which media reports.
Nationwide Media needs a professional continuing educational association to promote learning, like teachers, doctors, lawmen, and others have and often require. And awarding an accreditation title after their names.
Any industry calling their people 'professionals' should be able to prove accreditation to advanced training. Replies:
