Re(3): Why Are Argoitia And Txanika Getting Hosed In Spain ?? Posted on June 7, 2026 at 11:29:39 PM by BigMucho
Well, well, well, the "Summer League" excluidos Txanika and Argoitia just keep winning every partido that comes their way.
On Saturday night, the pairing of Txanika-Argoitia advanced to next weekend's finals of the Donostia Grand Slam tournament. On Sunday, Argoitia and Txanika faced off against each other in the singles championship of the Euskal Herritik Mundara Barakaldo Ampo Txapelketa tournament. Also on Sunday, both Argoitia and Txanika played on separate teams that both advanced to the finals of the Markina Grand Slam Tournament.
Notably, in the Markina Grand Slam, Txanika went head to head against Libois and kicked his ass, including a 15-7 domination in the second set. This is exactly the same thing that transpired throughout the recent Dania season. Yet somehow Libois is an automatic participant in the "Summer League" tournaments whereas Txanika wasn't even invited to try to qualify. I say NO WAY, Cadet.
Similarly, Argoitia is right now one of the top 5 best back courters in the world, despite not even being given the opportunity to qualify for "Summer League" competition. Aside from perhaps Basque and Leke, there is no one better in the back court. Five years from now, it will be commonly agreed that Argoitia is arguably the best zaguero in the world.
The player selections for who got the opportunity to qualify for the "Summer League" tournaments was even more egregiously unfair than what I suspected/suggested in my initial thread post above. For example, I recently watched the partido between Bonnin-Atain and Etcheberry-Ibarluzea in the qualifying rounds held on June 1st. The quality of play was very disappointing mainly because Bonnin and Etcheberry aren't even close to being world class level front courters, and they could not even have played in the early games at any American fronton that I attended in the 1980s. These guys basically didn't win a point on any rebote thrown all night, which were purely thrown defensively to keep the point alive rather than as offensive kill shots. Atain was simply not challenged all night, and Laurent Sorozobal who appeared to be the line judge for the partido did not break a sweat about the comical prospect of either of those guys ever facing Johan. Txanika is 3x to 5x better than Bonnin or Etcheberry.
On June 3rd, I watched a qualifying "Summer League" partido involving Iturralde whose forehand is literally so weak as to be in the Ispa category (but without any of Ispa's sensational catching ability). "Summer League" marginado Argoitia would destroy this guy.
