Benton Harbor � The name of Michigan's outgoing senior U.S. senator has surfaced as a potential candidate to be the next president of Michigan State University � and the senator is not trying to tamp down any speculation.

Sen. Gary Peters, a Bloomfield Township Democrat and MSU alum, sidestepped questions Friday about whether he is interested in serving as the East Lansing school's president, either in an interim or permanent role.
