Our friends got rescued by a Coast Guard helicopter last night after the marine salvage boat they called for a tow sunk Posted on June 14, 2026 at 12:51:12 PM by arctic44
Their engine kept stalling and draining the secondary fuel filter. They called sea tow who came out in a Boston whaler, jeans and T shirt and arrived with a compromised hatch and taking on water. Sea tow took them around cape aialik and got them close to no name island when the sea tow boat starts to sink. They dropped anchor in 200 feet by putting out 100 feet because they were right on top of no name island. They caught something to stop the boat and they pulled the sea tow guy onboard and then cut his boat away. Sea tow guy called coast guard with mayday and they came out 2 hours later and took them all off boat after swimming 50 yards away from boat.
Last they saw Merlot it was holding, but bow sprit torn off and fiberglass getting ripped by their all chain rode. It may not survive the storm coming in the next two days. They’re through a 12 pack of beer and going for more. They came close to not making it."
