This essentially means that it is acceptable to use these pages to seek sponsorship for The Fusiliers Aid Society (which includes Fallen Fusiliers), and The Fusilier Memorial fund only. We now have our own dedicated justgiving site (http://www.justgiving.com/fusiliersaidsociety), which you can use to help raise money for your cause. If you let RHQ (Asst Regt Sec) know the specific cause you are raising money for, it will be directed to the correct fund. Messages soliciting sponsorship for causes or charities other than the Fusilier ones mentioned above should not be placed on the message board and may be removed by the Webmaster. An interesting interpretation of the supposed conflict between the RNF and the Glosters.
This is the kind of information researchers on line will find in the future. Rightly or wrongly it will no doubt be taken as historical fact by future generations.
During the Battle of the Imjin River in 1951, both the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers (RNF) and the Glosters fought fiercely alongside each other. While there is no official record of RNF contempt for the Glosters, historical rivalries and frictions can occasionally arise between elite or proud regiments.
The RNF were an incredibly proud and storied regiment (often called the "Fighting Fifth") known for their own battlefield heroics.
The Gloucestershire Regiment garnered immense, arguably outsized, international media and historical focus after the Imjin River stand.
Regimental Rivalry: In close-knit brigade environments, intense media focus on one specific unit (the Glosters) sometimes bred resentment or mockery from other proud battalions—such as the RNF and the Royal Ulster Rifles (RUR)—who successfully fought their way out.
The Reality of Imjin.
Despite any inter-unit ribbing or soldier-level frictions typical of the British Army, the RNF and the Glosters ultimately relied on each other in life-or-death combat. The RNF covered the retreat and withdrawal of the broader 29th Brigade, while the Glosters provided a vital, albeit tragic, diversion on Gloster Hill. Both units were recognized with the highly prestigious US Presidential Unit Citation for their actions
