Too long had she felt safe in the Peak. It showed in the way Vogue left herself open to surprise from behind by facing directly into the wind. She could handle being surprised, but even Vogue wasn't expecting who found her. The sound of a male's voice snaked into her dark-rimmed ears whilst the seawind battered her. At first, the voice was unfamiliar, but its timbre teased and then shocked her, forcing the bay female to immediately jolt and recoil from him.
Though it had been years since last she'd seen her cruel older brother, Vogue remembered the way he treated mares, especially those who disobeyed and broke the rules. Fear broke out in a shock of cold sweat along the crest of her neck. Within the blink of an eye, the Peak mare became a small filly again, looking up at her brother with unadulterated fear. "Tattoo.." she breathed, voice stolen away by a breeze.
Foxfire had told her something about his being on the islands, but.. gods, Vogue hadn't thought that the girl was really telling the truth. She needed it to have been a cruel joke from a former slave who wanted to scare her as revenge on who she had been. She'd been so very wrong. The painted stallion stepped closer. Vogue was voiceless, mouth parted in mute disbelief, as he angled to look at her better.
"W-hat do you want," the bay managed to ask, her mouth dry. She shifted carefully, turning to face him more. The need would come for her to be able to maneuver away from him. She had to be ready.
