I have seen no messaging about that whatsoever. No press conference, nothing. Just a list of downgraded companies and “call the aldermen,” like that is gonna do anything.
Second, do you really think anyone outside CFD gives two ####s that paramedics get detailed more, do more paperwork, and provide a higher level of care for a couple thousand dollars more?
No one cares except a few CFD medics. Suggesting people drop their paramedic licenses over a 2 percent pay difference looks terrible. That is not a message that will win over aldermen or voters.
The city suffers when there are fewer paramedics available, and so do our own families. They are the same people calling 911 and depending on a paramedic to show up when someone is seriously sick or injured. Encouraging members to give up their licenses does not just hurt the department. It hurts every neighborhood in the city, including the people we go home to.
Where are the suggestions for improvement from Local 2? Where is the actual plan besides bashing the city and CFD in general? The only plan they seem to have is to destroy the system while throwing a temper tantrum.
If the pay and working conditions are unfair, then make that case clearly. But telling people to lower their level of care is not going to make the public support us, and it sure as hell is not going to make the city pay crossovers more. Replies:
