The time had finally come. Truthfully, it should have come a year prior. Fiona had said her goodbyes to her parents when she turned two and cast her gaze to the sea. Taking that first step into the unknown is much easier said than done. She was sure her parents knew she hadn't left, her scent lingering on the winds. Fiona had haunted the unoccupied corners of the Arch. She'd grown used to the silence, and perhaps even the loneliness, but she knew this was never what her parents wanted for her.
The swim was surprisingly uneventful, and Fiona attributed it to dancing in the waves of her youth and the muscles she'd grown clamoring along the Arch.
Sunlight shown off her damp coat, gleaming like polished metal. Her own legs were almost too bright for her to look at and Fiona eagerly headed into the shadows to escape it. Her heat was a hummingbird in her chest, and Fiona kept her gaze down as she maneuvered through the commons, trying to still her nerves. She found an empty patch of grass and did her best to ignore the other horses around her as she lowered her muzzle to the earth and took a nervous bite. Freedom didn't taste much different than home, she decided.
