If They Don’t - They Should Posted on July 21, 2026 at 07:09:46 PM by Stu Neiman
Even in my wildest rants I have never said “this will work. What is very clear is that the traditional system of parimutuel Jai-Alai in the U.S. was not a sustainable business product. The methods and approaches of WFA, WJAL, etc. have been new, untried and therefore unproven. Time, effort, manpower, strategic partnerships, consistent capital and product improvements year over year are a “good thing.” Profitability was never guaranteed and all the more unlikely given Jai-Alai’s failure when forced to compete against other gaming interests. I have been pleasantly surprised at revenue and can say that this entity has had more income than I had seen in the waining years of the smaller traditional facilities that I managed. This is an expensive program. And customer acquisition and retention costs may not be sustainable. But if this community believed that “making Jai-Alai profitable” in the United States was the only goal of the program you missed the point.
As for whoever heard we were not doing well financially - I know you did not get that from accounting, myself or Scott so that’s either the same BS that I have been reading herein for 25 years about literally every fronton that has existed. And what I have always tried to convey is that “doing well” is relative. A purely profit seeking entity would never go near Jai-Alai in the U.S. This has always been about trying new things - and hopefully they will work and it will either pay for itself or be profitable. Bit bright in and of itself has never been the goal. We are in year 8, planning for year 9, having made a huge move with no
Interruption in the schedule. That is a huge success in itself. After years of increasing the size and quality of the roster 2 cuts, however painful, is part of the process. And to answer that other question, I don’t expect any further cuts of players for the remainder of 2026. There has been no discussion of roster size for 2027. Replies:
