It was strange, watching Tefnut war with herself over her decision. How she had grown and matured into more than she’d been before. When she finally spoke, he couldn’t help the smallest smile that tugged at his lips. If Rethe told him to go… Caine was sure he would nettle the black mare for the fun of it, just as he’d done before. But this wasn’t his home, he was not bound to it and had no plans to stay that long.
“No one fights for a shadow.” he assured the red mare. “No one will come for me.” Even if they did, Tefnut was not bound to protect him as she would her own herd. Caine would never ask for anyone to fight his own battles. “Besides, how long do you think me to stay?” Caine tried to lighten the mood. “A little while could be as simple as the setting sun.”
The smile fell away though. Seriousness once more replacing it as his eyes shifted in the direction of the Arch again. “There are some things I must take care of in the Arch first.” he admitted. “Have you visited them before?” Caine could not recall if he had told Tefnut that Zion was his father. But if she wished for an alliance from her neighbors, this might be her best opportunity. Perhaps an olive branch to show him asking to stay truly meant no harm.
