Harmonie quells the guilt he felt of not helping to raise their son as she quickly corrects him that she was not alone. But she also manages to squash any feeling that he might be needed, despite her saying it wasn’t the same. She also speaks of the sins of the Lagoon as if they are the only ones to carry them. Caine is of no support of the Lagoon despite living there. But he is not so naïve to think they are the only ones at fault to the never-ending cycle of hate between the Peak and Lagoon. Just as he knows should he choose to live anywhere, be it the Peak or some territory, it will come with lock and key. He will not be able to walk freely without responsibility or askance of permission. Caine is no different than the wind. At least that is the thought he likes to fancy. Drifting without true cause or course aside from to reach the next place.


It seemed their son, whom she hadn’t even shared the name of, was already aimed for his future. At least the one Harmonie envisioned for him. Did she know what responsibility she laid on him already? Was that of his own choosing for his life? Caine wished the ideals of his parents weren’t laid upon his shoulders already. Not knowing if the colt would be able to shake them off as he had done with Zion’s ideas.


“You can still care about those you do not live with.” Caine replied when Harmonie had finished. “You can still see them as well.” It was then that Caine gave a heavy sigh, knowing it was not the answer Harmonie wished to hear but he had to stand strong to it. “But I will not live in the Peak.”
