People are overreacting to some of Whitt's depth chart comments, in that some of it is simply guys are ahead because they were here in the spring and others weren't. Still, between public comments and things I've been told, depth chart is fairly clear. (m) Posted on July 31, 2026 at 06:06:04 PM by gbmcq
QB
Bryce is the dude, obviously.
Tommy Carr is QB2 right now. BFN is on campus now and should push for that job, but if Carr is QB2 to start the season, that's pretty awesome.
RB
Jordan Marshall is going to be a beast.
Savion Hiter is going to be a beast.
WR
Marsh is WR1. JJ is WR2. They are clear top two and should rarely leave the field.
Moa, Ffrench, Travis Johnson, Channing Goodwin will compete for WR3/4 reps. Goodwin, again, great route runner and blocker, if they fixed his drops he will be good.
TE
Marshall is TE1. Hansen is TE2. Not a ton of chatter here.
OL
Things get interesting here.
They love Babs, they want him to win the LT job. They aren't going to move him to guard just to get him on the field, he's a future star tackle.
If healthy, Link still looks good to start at LG. Guarnera at C.
Michigan is going to play its best 5, so things get interesting on the right. Some internal debate about whether Frazier would move to G, or Sprague. IT SEEMS, Frazier would be at RT and Sprague at RG is Babs gets LT. Efobi is in the mix at RG, and so is Avery Gach. Also, Malakai Lee is going to be a factor in the two-deep, might play 6OL.
DEFENSE
DE - JHD, healthy and starting. Cam Brandt right now is the other starter. I think they will rotate this position heavy as we have in the past, and I'm not sure Brandt stays there. Dom Nichols has been consistently hyped all offseason. I've been on Lugard Edokpayi forever, seems like he will also be a factor in the top 4. Carter Meadows is going to play. Had he been here in the spring, they'd be talking about him differently. Benny Patterson is another guy.
Pierce and Etta are DT1 and DT2. Lea'ea transfer will play. Tons of guys competing here, Palepale, Kanka. Travis Moten is a scary dude, I hope he plays. Freshman, Davis and Vallejo will compete too.
LB, depends who you ask. But Bowles has gotten hype, Chase Taylor, The ND transfer is finally getting some chatter (he was hurt in spring) and NOB as well. A group to watch this fall.
CB - Hill is CB1 and looking good. There's been talk about Zeke Berry moving back to nickel or safety hybrid. I've long thought that opened a door for Shamari Earls. I still think Earls plays, but the secondary right now is CB1 Hill, CB2 Snowden, Nickel Berry. Mason Curtis can still play that big nickel role.
Rod Moore and Chris Bracy are starting safeties as has been discussed. Bracy has been so good since getting here. Regardless of Moore's health, I think Jordan Young plays a ton. Curtis here too. Replies:
