She doesn’t really like this place, because it is full of people, and she is quite shy. She doesn’t really like that Fluorine isn’t here, but she has to trust Jasper that she will be okay. Jasper had to leave Sadie, and Ellie had to leave Flo, but she knows that she will see her again, because her brother told her so. So now she sits with Draco’s arms wrapped around her, and she is a little scared, but Jasper smiled at her in that special brother-sister way, so it is alright.
She is bored of sitting with her daddy. She pets him gently on the arm, pushes herself off his lap, nods at him to tell him that he can go. He kisses her head, then stands up, probably to go and find Poppy. Iodine sits down in the dust, and picks up three small stones.
Playing isn’t the same without Flo. Flo can play with her, batting at the stones or pouncing after sticks like a dog. But alone, she has nothing to do, so she just drops the stones on the floor, watching them bounce before settling in the dirt. She tires quickly of this, and wishes that she could have some powers like Jasper, something to play with even when she is alone. The only thing Iodine can do is freeze things with her breath, and even those melt quite fast.
She cannot see anyone her own age here, but it is quite dark and all she can see is the fire and her shadow and Jasper’s half-hidden face. She doesn’t want to speak to him; he looks like he has things on his mind and she doesn’t want to disturb him. He can be dangerous when disturbed. Kicking her legs out in front of her, she rubs her now-dusty hands over her face, smudging it with faint black marks, and wonders if she is the youngest person to survive the flood.
