Juliette had been under much duress since the second curse. Before the second curse, the fact that Scott's familiar was a predator animal and hers a prey never bothered her, but with neither of them having any connection to Gauge or Actaeon, and the tendency for them to be in close proximity, well... Juliette had spent a lot of time worrying... and yet always promised Scott that if, somehow, Gauge had... killed Actaeon... that she would never love Scott any less... even when he eventually would get Gauge back. SHe wasn't sure if Scott believed her, though... Still, she had been pretty much living with Scott all the time now, not that either of them minded. Without Gauge for company, Scott would get lonely, and without Actaeon around, he seemed to want to keep her closer to him, which she didn't mind. She didn't want him to feel lonely, and she felt safer around him.

They'd tried not to think about it, where the other halves to their souls were, and instead focused on each other. It's no surprise that, in all this chaos, they had grown closer than ever. Amidst all the stress and craziness, Juliette could still smile because they still had each other. Some nights were harder than others for her to be happy, though last night hadn't been difficult at all. She was still curled up against Scott, her body delicately entwined with his. He was a tremendous comfort to her, always, and they tended to cuddle in the evenings because it was nicer when they slept together, even if they hadn't yet 'slept together' in that sense. Juliette was finding herself more and more motivated to breach her self-reservations about the issue, because all in all Scott was being incredibly patient with her, beyond what would normally have been expected from any other man. He was truly wonderful to her, and she was grateful for him, even if their start had been a little awkward, and rocky.

The noises had not quite woken Juliette, though she turned into his shoulder with a soft reluctant murmur, taking in a deep breath as the shifting of his body roused her, slowly, from her slumber. By the time Scott understood what was being shouted to him, Juliette had only just started to blink blearily at their surroundings, looking somewhat confused by the shouting. She looked up at Scott, curious as to whether the shouting was merely the tail end of some dream, but with the serious and concerned look in his eyes she knew, deep in her stomach, it was true. It didn't take long for her to be on her feet. She quickly slipped on her sandles and grabbed her messenger bag. It didn't have much, just the spare clothes she always brought to Scotts and the picture of Actaeon he had painted, which she kept for sentimental reasons. The bag was still light and only took a second to grab and sling over her shoulder. She was at the door in a heartbeat, though probably several of her own as her heart was already racing.

She was afraid, no, terrified, not only for their own well-being, but of that of all the familiars still lost out there. How would they survive? She gripped the strap of the messenger bag more tightly.
"Scott, what about Actaeon and Gauge?" she whimpered fearfully as she approached the door by which he was standing. In her voice, you could hear it; she knew there was nothing they could do for them, nothing that could be done other than pray, but still, "Their instincts would take them to higher ground, right?" She was grasping straws for answers, just anything to preserve what little hope she had. Her fear was rational; her familiar was a pray animal. There were so many more things that could go wrong for him than there were for Gauge, really. Still she worried for them both, as much for the compatriot to her love's soul as she did for her own.

Through the open doorway she saw the chaos of people, running, and was suddenly overwhelmed by the urgency to get moving. She knew that she could probably run faster in her wolf form, but she wouldn't, no, couldn't let go of Scott. They didn't even bother to close the door, and her hand gripped his tightly, her sandles strapped to her feet. They were secure shoes, though not particularly good for running, but they would keep her feet from getting torn up by rocks along the way. As Scott was telling her to keep a hold on his hand, she nodded, reaffirming her grip with a squeeze. She couldn't help but feel this desire to look back, but she knew better, knew better than to look back and witness the monster coming for them.
"I won't let go, Scott..." her voice was small, understandably by fear, but firm and unwavering. She wouldn't let go. She wouldn't let go...

And then it began... the run for their lives...

Juliette had never really noticed how far away the Core was from the Shady Labyrinth, or perhaps when fleeing for their lives it just felt so much further away. She didn't even spare the breath or energy to cry as they left behind their little belongings to be destroyed. For Juliette, she wasn't so bothered, since she was used to having little more than what was in a bag, like she had now, but Scott... Scott's artwork would be lost... all of his supplies, everything. But no, now was not the time to think about what they would be losing, because none of it would matter if they were dead...

That's not much better to think about either.

As they were running, they never let go of each other, not even for a fraction fo a second, because that's all it would take for them to lose each other in the mob, or worse. Occasionally Juliette stumbled, but Scott never let her fall, using his strength and momentum to pull her forward and to keep going. They had to keep going.

Juliette's thighs and calves burned like fire. She wasn't used to running for so long, so fast, on so unsteady a terrain. She felt guilty that she didn't look behind her to be sure that people were keeping up, but she didn't want to look back. It would be too tempting to look upon the curse that was racing after them. She could feel the moisture in the air, the humidity thickening as the wall of salt water was closing in on them. She had taken to focusing only on the ground within the few yards in front of her, jsut enough to be wary of trees or shrubs and enough to dodge rocks, but several shouts and a growing multitude of voices brought her to look up.

She had never before been so happy to see a building before in her life. Julie was an open spaces kind of girl, sleeps in fields or in open tents in caravans and things like that, but the stone walls of the core were a godsend to her now, and amidst the heavy rasping panting she let out a triumphant cry of joy. New energy spurred her on, and with Scott's hand closed tightly in her own she focused purely on the way in and nothing else. There were only two things on her mind as the gates drew nearer. One, that they were almost to safety, and Two, just how much she loved Scott.

Enough that, even this close to the end, if he were to fall, to be unable to make it, she would not abandon him for anything... She wouldn't want to be anywhere without him, particularly if she were to lose him forever. However,s he was so close, and so overwhelmed by the sensation of victory, that she made the mistake of looking over her shoulder and was almost frozen in awe of the sight.

A wall of water, literally, approaching them. The Labyrinth had already been swept under, their homes were already gone, so easily wiped away by such a gigantic mass of ocean. It took her a moment to realize how desperately Scott was pulling on her arm, his voice muffled began to come in clear again, telling her to come on, that they were almost there, to stop looking at it. She shook herself to attention and looked downward towards the ground. A few yards away, a child had fallen. Although she had promised not to let go, although she had sworn she never would, she glanced back at Scott.

"Wait!" she cried urgently. Although he may be exasperated, frantic, desperate for her to turn away and just get to safety, he also knew just who he had fallen in love with, and she would not be the same Julie if she hadn't. She slipped from him and ran to the child; they weren't from the Labyrinth, but it didn't matter. She quickly pulled him up into her arms, hiding his eyes into her shoulder so he didn't see the wall of water behind her as she began running back up the hill. She barely made it, but she made it, but she didn't stop until they were full away from the doors and up to a safe point with the others. Exhausted, she set the child down who immediately began searching for someone familiar, and Juliette turned and looked just as frantically for Scott. Upon finding him she ran to him and threw her arms around his neck, sobbing and clinging to him as if any fractional space between them would render her unable to breathe.

"G-god Scott, I-I'm sorry, I know I s-said I wouldn't let go, but I had to, I couldn't leave him, I couldn't!" she sobbed, fingers curling into his shirt tightly. She couldn't tell if she was shivering, or shaking from the pain in her legs, or simply from the strong sense of joy and fear mixing drastically within her. She leaned back, a hand sliding up into his usual mess of hair, pulling him down to her in frantic, 'holy christ, we're alive' kisses, deepening them as she started to steady herself, allowing them to slow. She loved him, so much, and right now she didn't care if the whole world saw. Let them see.

Let them all see how much I love you...
