There's a hole in the world like a great black pit
and it's filled with people who are filled with shit!
And the vermin of the world inhabit it!

The wolf man sat in his corner, away from the fire, watching the children of shaman huddle together, trading things that they had collected around the castle. Small statues of some woman (the Virgin Mary; Arthur was not going to be pleased) who they had decided was Aura. One of the children, the girl made of water, Minn, came up to him and tugged on his jacket softly.
“’donis… I’m cold…” He smiled softly at her and took off his jacket, before hanging it around the girl’s shoulders. He tried to hide the cold that he now felt and pushed her gently.
“Go share it with the others… It is big enough, isn’t it?” He smiled as she tottered off to her siblings and the others, before sharing the coat by all cuddling together.

The dark haired man leaned his head back against the wall and groaned to himself. He was tired, and probably sick. His usually tanned skin had become paler and there were dark rings around his eyes. He felt responsible for everyone who had come from the labyrinth, from everyone here. It was not his responsibility, but… but there he was, sitting there. Caring. Caring too much.

He felt a cold pain in his chest and grasped it suddenly, before feeling the warmth spread there. He opened his eyes and gasped, before seeing a large (really quite big) black wolf padding towards him. He could feel it again. The thread of magic between him and his familiar, the thing that had been broken from the second curse, was there again. He was whole. His soul was back together. The golden eyed wolf padded up to his master, licked his hand before lying down at the wolf man’s feet. Adonis tilted his head and smiled, weakly, still tired and aching, but there was a warmth there. Something he had been missing for too long.

Before long the smile faded and the cold set in again, he shivered, despite his thick black trousers and shirt, the cold still permeated his body like the waters of the sea had taken the lands of Shaman. He closed his eyes again and leaned his head back, wrapping his arms around himself. The children were more important than he was, he had decided long ago. To save the children would be a worthy cause for his death. But then he may never have a chance to meet his own son. What would happen to the child if Draco went hungry? If he hurt himself? Surely Aura could have chosen a better host for their child… But that was hardly something he could complain about now. She did not have the magic to undo her mistake, and Poppy had a magic shield around the boy. Magic could not undo the mistake…

So what was there left for him? This cold, wet and cramped castle, the people he cared for, the people he had to care for. But did anyone, other than Itzal, really care for him? How much would they notice if he was gone? How long would it take them to care? Until they needed something? Sure, that would make him feel very loved. But then there was Siobhan. Did she love him? How was he supposed to know? Did she just want him back again because he was familiar, or something stupid like that? She wanted someone to comfort her, to take care of her. Just like the rest of them.
He smirked bitterly.
What had turned him into the man he was today? The flood? The curses? Or was it just the fact that people took him for granted? Or maybe, just maybe, it was that everyone he let into his life, let know the real him, either died or left him.
That was a fun thought…
