the past was a golden place Lilith

He had been planning it out in his head for weeks, and finally he was going to put everything into operation, hoping that everything was going to work out the way that he had hoped. A piece of parchment sat on his desk, freshly written in black ink, his curling handwriting its usual distinctive self. Beside it was a folded up dress in white and green silk to bring out the colour of her eyes, which Arthur had asked his Mother to make a few weeks previously. The young King took a deep breath and picked up the dress and the note, and left the office without even glancing in Pendragon’s direction, the bird was unusually uncritical, which Arthur decided to take as a sign of approval, it always had been with Merlin. He stopped walking when he arrived at the door to Lilith’s room, and placed the dress down on the floor on top of a piece of black velvet so that it did not get dirty, and then placed the parchment on top of the dress. He knocked on the wooden door three times, before turning and walking off down the corridor, running over the note in his head, hoping that she would decipher his rather flamboyant prose and meet him in the castle’s main hall at six that evening.

Arthur pulled his best tunic on over his head, and then looked at himself in the mirror. He had trimmed his hair slightly for the occasion and Nimueh had added silver stitching to the cuffs and neckline. His black riding-style trousers were also new, and he had spent the day polishing his black boots. The young King nodded, satisfied, and turned towards his bedside table, and lifting his silver crown up off the wooden head which stood there, he transferred it to his own. Arthur was running later than he had planned, but as far as he knew the hall was ready.

He sat down in the large oak-backed chair at the head of the long dining table, the candles which had been positioned at various points around the room lending a lovely warm atmosphere to the place. The food was on the table under platter lids and several brightly coloured banners, including several in crimson with the Pendragon coat of arms hung from the walls, and all the suits of armour had been polished, now all he had to do, was wait for Lilith to arrive, and prey that his heart stopped beating so loudly so that he might actually talk when she go there.

Arthur & Pendragon
All great men do wicked things, but people are more willing to forgive them
