Romance is in the air...this is probably the most beautiful and scenic place in Blossom Forest. For the athletic and determined to come with their mates, for time away from pups. Only adults may come here; some of the ledges are too far apart for teens or pups to cross and some too high to scale.

Raylen was broken.

He could not use poetry to describe who he was, who he had become in the space of three years, because there were no words strong enough nor emotional enough to inspire a sense of exactly how much he hurt inside, and because he did not want to try and figure that hurt out. Finding the exact depth of that fractured soul would surely kill him. It'd make everything he had gone through real. It would make his mistakes real. And Ray's mistakes, needless to say, were numerous beyond belief. The golden boy - of the nameless land, of Moladion, of Casteon, of Blossom Forest, of Bright Moon and of Soul and Satowra and Rio and Tamlin and Misty and pack brothers, sisters, sons, daughters - did not think there were enough sorries in the world that he could use to make things better. Apologies never got him anywhere. Apologies would not repair him as he wished they would. They were just empty promises, he thought now. Vows that would not be fulfilled.

Til death do us part.

With a jolt, the golden boy realized he was nearing seniority. At nearly eight years of age, Ray felt absolutely ancient. Ancient and alone, because someone like him did not deserve company in immortality. And he - of that unnamed place, of Moladion, of Casteon, of Bright Moon and of Soul, and Satowra, and Tamlin and Rio and Misty and pack brothers, sisters, sons, daughters - still had no stability in his life. He still had no home, despite the places he'd been to and stayed. At one point, he would have called Bright Moon his home. Now, he was not so sure. Although physically Ray still appeared youthful - the strong, proud set of his shoulders, the muscle corded tightly in his limbs, the ruffled gold of his coat and the faint traces of aged silver on his lips - his eyes betrayed him with the hollowed out look in their brilliant teal depths. Long ago, Ray lost his childish naivete. And he wasn't even sure where it went.

Drawing in a breath of harsh winter air, feeling its bitter sting on his parched throat and dry nose, the wolf lifted himself wearily to his paws, staring up earnestly at the grand structure towering in front of him. He remembered a time when it had looked far more daunting and far more fearsome, probably more than it actually was. The Cliff certainly was a sight that would make even the brave quake a little - especially now, in winter, when the highest parts were dusted in snow and further down, ice crusted along the otherwise distinct paths. Raylen was a perpetual wanderer and though he had lost count of how many times he'd left this land, it seemed he always returned and it would always be to here. To this rocky place.

Instead of choosing the route that the other wolves were going, Ray skirted the base of the cliff, wrinkling his nose at the smell of female heat in the air. It was dull to him, despite the fact that it was mating season and he should take advantage of that. Ray doubted he'd ever let himself go that figurative route again. His heart was done with trusting itself to others. This trail that he'd brought himself to was basically abandoned but it was one that he'd gone down once before...

He shuddered in nostalgia and placed a paw precariously on the closest ledge. It was slippery, but he managed to heave his frame up. Then he continued, until he got to an actual carved out path with frost on its edges, and walked for what seemed like a long time, but probably wasn't. By the time he stopped because of the ice on his lashes and clogging his coat, it felt like there was hardly enough oxygen in the air. The wolf lowered himself to the snowy ground, hanging his paws off the edge and letting out a long breath.

The sky never seemed so monochromatic, before.

and i will give you every part of me
