At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

It was peaceful at Staircase falls. The sound of trickling water and splashes, as pebbles would crumble away from the Staircase shaped rock formation and land in puddles that had formed below, could be heard. Birds carried on chirping just as they always did and the forest seemed to hum its own little song. In that way Yoki guessed she was a bit of a nature freak. She had turned to nature when her life was difficult and had spent most of her puppy years peering into any form of water she could. Her pain seemed to drift away with the current and for some short period of time the lass felt free, which was more than she could say for how she felt now. This male was strange. Well not strange more... different. Instead of lunging for her throat after being insulted, which is what she half expected him to do, he seemed to deflate. His eyes and swatter drooped and his once happy-go-lucky personality became a lot like hers; moody and not really bothered. Normally if she had spoken to any male like that she would have been begging for her life right now which is why she had surprised herself when she stood up to him. She could tell he was hurt and a little piece of her heart went out to him, a knot of guilt tightening in her stomach, she shouldn’t have spoken to him like that. He didn’t really deserve it. That was until he snapped back....

Yoki knew that she had hurt the brute, no doubt denting his pride in the process but that’s what you got when you barged into someone’s private space for no apparent reason what so ever. A snarl erupted her maw as his sharp words pierced her ear drums, but he was right. There was no reason for her to take out her crappy mood on him so like a stubborn pup that was being told off she turned her head away from him and sulked. Things seemed to calm down after that. Yoki introduced herself and both wolves composed themselves. The huntress listened quietly as the boy talked and she had to agree with him, he did ramble but he was good company at least. The lass had never met anyone like him before. Sure she would probably think of him to be an itch but a nice itch. An itch that had a big smile and a big heart and loved life. The girl had never been able to love, she had never been able to appreciate life and she probably would never have the gift to embrace every day as it came, unless she could find someone to help her. That was one thing she envied him for.

Before long the rainbow wolf had moved away from the den and beckoned Yoki to follow him towards the waterfall. This would have been the perfect opportunity to run as fast as she could and never have to look back, but she found herself following him towards the water. *Wait, Yoki what are you doing? Whenever you get attached to a male they hurt you. You know you can’t trust males yet you are willingly following him round like a love sick puppy. He will hurt you, get out now before it’s too late.* The ess stopped in her tracks. Her mind taunted her with memories of the past. She had been raped and beaten too many times and she could not trust males at all, yet she was following this one round, letting herself get caught in the trap that she had walked into way to many times in the past. “Wait.” Her heart skipped a beat. The real Yoki was starting to show her stripes. The coward was showing through. “How do I know I can trust you?” The girl sat on her haunches, eyes fixed on the dirt below her. That was a bit of a stupid question, no matter what he did or said she still probably wouldn’t trust him. Trust took a long time to develop and she couldn’t wait that long, not if her life depended on it. He told her that he left his pack, but what if he was thrown out? What if there was a mutiny against him and he was forced out by his unloving subjects and now he was hungry for revenge. Satisfying his anger with the blood of unsuspecting females. Yes, okay. Her ideas were a bit farfetched and stupid but the logic was there. “I’m sorry I just... I just can’t get hurt again.” God she barely even knew this guy but she felt she had to apologise and cry over him. *Great one Yoki. Show him you’re weak. That’s great.* The huntress found herself in a pickle now didn’t she?
