Romance is in the air...this is probably the most beautiful and scenic place in Blossom Forest. For the athletic and determined to come with their mates, for time away from pups. Only adults may come here; some of the ledges are too far apart for teens or pups to cross and some too high to scale.

they say that what you don't know won't hurt you and Raylen wholeheartedly believes that this is true. her emotions are a guessing game that the golden boy is winning because he knows her, he knows what he's done to her, and he has felt all that she is feeling. although he still is clueless as far as her past -- all he knows is that she, too, has gone through heartbreak and she too has felt the ache of loneliness -- there is a point in which he does not have to know the names of her past lovers and foes, those who she has seen and those who she hasn't. he doesn't need to know her favorite place to be, what the comfort of her den is like, the weight of secrets on her shoulders. Ray empathizes with her and that is enough for him. maybe, one day, when the sharp tang of his betrayal has faded into a distant, dim memory caught in dust in the back of her mind, he will learn all of these things and more. but that day is not today, not as he can almost see the broken pieces of her in her eyes. he hates himself.

he looks into her face and he can see past the apparent youth, the simple beauty of her that he has come to appreciate. he can see the nights she has spent avoiding sleep because she knows that something is there, waiting for her. she is just as exhausted as he. Raylen frowns but keeps silent. how is he supposed to bring it up? what has been keeping you awake at night? sounds far too forward, and I know you haven't slept makes it seem as if he has always been here, but he's tried to keep away from her.

the frown dragging his lips down grows wider because he knows she's lying, he knows it. he doesn't need to look at her -- Misty has always been quiet, but never sullen. she hasn't been like this. reading between the lines, into the hesitance between the beginning and the end, he stifles the urge to yell, to tell her no, stop lying because they've lied enough to each other. aren't they supposed to be.. friends? aren't friends supposed to be honest? still, Raylen does not comment. "that's good," he mumbles, his husky voice just as soft as hers.

and then he stands, dredging up the courage he knows he lacks and he shuffles closer to her, bending his muzzle until his lips are near her ear and he can feel her breathe. "i'm tired, Misty," he murmurs, quiet. his heart trips in his chest. "god, i- i wouldn't be surprised if you hated me." the formality slowly drips out of his voice. "and i know that sorry is not and will never be enough to make up for- for everything, but i need to say it anyway. i'm sorry. and i don't mind if you don't forgive me. i can leave, if it makes you happy, i'll leave. because, fuck," the swear slips from his lips unintentionally but he doesn't halt, "you deserve that. and so much more. i just- i'm done with the bullshit life gives all of us... i want to stop hurting and i want you to stop hurting, too." and then, he draws back, his eyes widened, ears flattening against his head. he takes a step back. what has he done?

[[i wrote this at four in the morning, i'm sorry if it doesn't make any sense and just pretend he didn't screw anything up in his talking if he actually did because that is my fault x.x obviously]]
i'm not strong enough for the both of us.
