At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

Prince Charming? How alarming!

Amatus had left the girl along with the three rabbits for a brief visit to get some breath, he had not wanted her to come along or ask questions. So instead he slipped off as she had fallen into a gentle slumber. He had returned fairly quickly but stayed put in the shadows. He did not wish for her to get into the state of what she had been previously, so he had stayed just a bit further away. His ears however, were alert. Wolves never truly slept, it was the same as cats though not as extreme as dolphins to lay still with one eye open ready to make an escape in needed. He was not ready to escape though – after all, what did he have to escape from? Instead he was ready to fight any predator away from Yoki. He watched her in the shadows, her shallow breathing giving him a heart attack any time it did not go in a rhythmic pace. He was aware of her every movement and any sounds of what he thought might be pain; he was up in a shot. Nothing was serious however; no one was coming to abuse her again.
After three or four hours, Amatus decided that it was best if they moved away into a more secure and sheltered area. His limbs bent and stretched, his brain trying to convince his objective and lazy legs to move. Eventually they gave in and he was able to make his way over to Yoki. He collapsed with a gentle thud beside her and rested his head on her back, he could feel her spine bones poking out beneath the fur cloak, he ignored it however, knowing that she would someday be full of meat and not just skin and bones. “Yoki, you’ve got to get up now.” He whispered gently close to her ear. He licked her forehead before moving off and nudging the back of her once – attempting to motivate her slightly more. Amatus jumped off over to the waterfall and carefully – after checking the streams power – dipped his front paws in, liking the feeling of cold, fresh and clean water gently rushing over his pads. He was tired – he was constantly worrying about Yoki, he knew he needed to just get her healthy and plump again so that he wasn’t worrying about her all night and all day.

His body moved slowly but with ease, humming gently as he went on, calculating and debating where to go, how to get there and the quickest route. He would have enjoyed staying here, basking in the morning sun with a gentle breeze gliding right over him. But a change of scenery would do them both some good; perhaps he would not be so cranky if he was more active and perhaps it would strengthen up Yoki a tad. He hoped it would, he wanted to hunt with her instead of mope around like soggy bobtail cats. The thought made him chuckle slightly before he looked back over to Yoki and back at the river. “You should drink, it’ll do you no good to be dehydrated, I’d rather you fit and healthy right now Yoki.” He said gently. “Perhaps one day we shall rule a pack, hm. We should really join one though, in time however for you are still weak and many packs are busy in their own little worlds. I have heard many pleasant remarks about Saw Tooth and also… Uh, oh yes: Spring Grounds.” He finished with a smile and stretched down to take a drink, suddenly thirsty.

“Right – I have no idea where we are going to walk but it is walking we shall do.”
