During the day, sentries guard the sleeping. When the sky is dark and the moon dances with the stars, this is when the real fun begins. Munashii Gekko's forest is the only haunt where you can find your local misfits all in one place. A land of the forbidden and forgotten, a place that is riddled with dangers of a whole different kind. The wolves here have long misplaced their rightful minds, and now live like creatures damned to prowl and lurk through the night. It's easy to lose yourself here, sanity was sure to fade away and wither; there was never anything normal about this nefarious nest. The silent threats that whispered in the breeze were enough to deter even the largest of demons around. It was not strength nor wit that ensured your survival here with Eric, and challengers would be torn down with a morose lethality - there was nothing left in his cold blue eyes that promised mercy to anyone who dared to overstep their worth. So, would you give up the sun for the moon and stars? Do you have enough vigor to become a well regarded sentry? - Put on a game face to step up and pass the sepia king's test or turn and leave before he catches your scent. You never know who wants to snack on your delicious blood in this forest.

The brute was nervous and impatient, as was evident in his pacing. Back and forth, one paw in the water and then out again, turning to complete another revolution around some invisible star. His auds twitched with the whispers of every breeze and his nares tasted the currents to detect any coming soul. Damn, didn’t he have a pack?! It was with an audible sigh of relief that Serris scented the unmistakable stench of wolves growing strong. Then he was back to worry, as these were not his warriors. How funny, his own family could not respond in the time it took for strangers. Surely a talk would be in order. But perhaps he was also too obsessed over the matter, giving his current mental state. Not crazy, just... slightly unnerved.

When the two males broke from their cover Serris was intrigued by their similar appearance; the only signs of individuality was the slightly darker underpelt of one and the opposite pools that stared intently at him. He saw one’s ears pin back, the other raise an eyebrow as if asking And? Serris returned the gesture, as it was almost his trademark, his own brow rising to its familiar place. And? What kind of gall did these bastards have to waltz into his pack and not pay their respects? Ebon lips pulled back to reveal four sharp canines, but this was no smile and the threat should have been obvious. “I have no place in my ranks for disrespect, boys,” he purred, the sound casual yet dangerous, tension rising in his stare. It was not his game to play now; whatever their move, he had the perfect counterattack.

The next wolf came leaping in, literally. It was Roni, and instantly Serris detected different about her appearance, but he could not pin it down. After she recovered from her stunt the femme made her way up to him, giving a nod in respect. Even his name was uttered, a formal acknowledgement. He nodded his head slightly in return, nares flaring as he tried to figure out what bothered his brain. His cold blue eyes gave a slightly flash of amusement when he scented milk on her, and one look to her reddened teats completed the story. He waited patiently, a rare thing indeed, for her to settle before sending a verse her way. “I will not ask the obvious question, but I do hope you know I am curious.” He left her with a grin.

Who could have arrived next but Kobato. Serris released a heavy breath through his nose, but in all honesty he was not feeling the immense dread he once did when the girl came into view. Her sides spasmed as she panted heavily, running up to him with a speed that didn’t seem to slow the closer he got. His muscles tensed for the impact, expecting some sort of leap or flying kiss, but she merely pumped into his fore and was glued there trying to catch her breath. His eyes rolled slightly as he tried not to look down at the little lass, although she really was beginning to fill out into a teen. He could feel her brown portals transfixed on his face, his little nickname slipping past her lips in the unique tone that could only belong to Kobato.

The little ess kept to his front pillar as one or two more wolves wandered in, each receiving their own welcome, but after a few minutes the pup shifted to nuzzle up to his ankle, another quiter exclamation exiting her kissers. A slight rumbling in his chest was sure to let her know that he didn’t want to play that kind of game today. He had a meeting to run and a pack to lead and ranks to hand out; surely her small brain could comprehend that. Then her mood changed, as if a crash, a bird that falters in its rhythm and plummets to the ground. His cranium twisted down to regard her for the first time since she entered, and what he saw concerned, yes, concerned him. Her tiny form seemed for frail, more weak, shivering against his fore although she surely could not be cold. If a wolf could have had bags under their eyes than Kobato would definitely have them, and everything about her seemed... off. Deep worry filled his spheres, but he quickly suppressed it for fear that someone would see, or maybe he himself was afraid of the emotion. He opened his maw to speak to her, but Kobato beat the dark regal to the punch, and these were not the words he wanted to hear. First off, she used his name. Not a big deal to some, but for a girl who regarded him as “Serryberry” this raised a level of concern. Second, Kobato has used the taboo “I”. Never once had he heard the girl regard herself in first person, and to be honest the brute almost didn’t catch this slip of tongue, so used was he to common speech. Was something really that wrong? His brow furrowed slightly as his muzzle lowered to scent her, tasting something very unwell in her perfume. Shit.

Glancing around, Serris saw Devil’s Angel make her appearance just as Kobato curled up beneath his frame, looking like nothing he had ever seen of her before. Slowly lowered his rump to the damp earth, Serris lowered completely in such a way that Kobato fit snuggly in the crook of his elbow. Her skin burned into his ribcage, evidence of the fever that raged within her body, but Serris had no real experience with these sorts of matters so all he could think to do was offer his warmth. Should he be finding herbs or something else, like all the midwives do? Shaking his head briefly, the King looked up to Devil’s Angel as she made her way forward, dropping comments to those she passed on the way. He didn’t hear but the tail of her last prod to the two new males, but he simply smirked, knowing that the comment had to do with him. Then again, he was the supreme ruler of this land. Even in his concern, Serris was still purely Serris.

She gave a deep bow in greeting and Serris complimented with the best he could while lying. Her calm question was a lot more serious than she made it out to be, but then again she was probably trying to keep Kobato from worrying about her condition. How sick was she? The knight’s pools narrowed slightly, his gaze showing how completely lost he was with these sorts of things and the slight anger at this fae for asking a thing he didn’t know. But he know there was no rational explanation for his red emotion, and as an Alpha he was charged with being fair. Relaxing his facial muscles, Serris opened his maw to speak some sly words to the vixen, but when he tried all that came out was a tired sigh, his stare wandering towards the ground. The aqua of his irises twisted and bubbled with his insecurity about the matter, but he made sure Kobato didn’t feel anything negative from him.

What was crazy was why he was feeling such an absurd thing. Did he really care about this little runt? Enough to feel such deep, festering concern for the lass? Only weeks before he hated her very presence, and now he sacrificed his comfort and his warmth to aid her. He had even lost the very words in his throat. But Serris would convince himself that he was only doing these things for his reputation, as it was not the best thing to let a pack member die, especially a pup. Even for Munashii standards – nice was not a word used as a common descriptor – no Alpha should blatantly stand by and watch as one under his protection shriveled up and faded. This was his duty. Nothing more. Obviously, Serris could not be honest with himself yet.

From the side of his gaze Serris could see Devil’s Angel playfully questioning the pup, maybe hoping to cheer her up? Either way, the King gave a huff to the lady before he walked away, showing his gratitude, another rare emotion to be shown by the demon. He would need his words for the next two attendees. Set and Rise. They had been patiently waiting at the borders to Kobato and Roni before Serris came in and swept the pup away. It seemed he had... forgotten... But no, the brute had a lot on his mind, especially this meeting and the rank to follow, plus dealing with the full brunt of Kobato distracted him from the matter at hand. As an Alpha, he felt he had failed. How long had they been waiting at the borders? He had not scented them within the territory, but surely they could not have been waiting this whole time? The male’s auds flicked back slightly, showing his shame as the pair approached, the blind snowman guided by his shadowy counterpart. The milky boy seemed respectful and happy, if that was at all possible with the current mood tainting the air, and in a way Serris was glad for it. Even in the face of all this disappointment, it took a lot of mental strength to stay positive. For just this Serris would have accepted him. His brother, though, held a more Munashii view of life, as he could feel his sour demeanor. Well, sorry buddy, things happen. Learn to live like your brother here.

Set, as he was pretty sure the ivory one was called, started off by addressing him with “lord” and “sir”, then saying something about not minding their presence. This only made the charcoal hessian feel even more guilty about his absence at their welcoming. Then he inquired about the little princess herself. Taking this chance to explain himself, Serris spoke. “No need for the formalities, although the King much appreciates your respect.” A slight smirk came to his lips as he called himself King, as he knew it was a vain move, but his grin soon faded. “I ask you to forgive my absence at the borders, it is one of the few things I am sorry for. I do not wish for us to start with my image soiled, but I know very well that your judgments have already been made. Regardless, you both are formally accepted into Munashii.” His words were serious and strangely sincere. Not many were lucky enough to see this side of the regal. He turned his gaze to Rise, hoping he would take the apology. Then he turned to look at Kobato, hopefully still curled by his side. “She... has been better.” And that was all he could really say. He really didn’t know. And that stung more than any bug.

Movement to his left made the brute turn sharply, his ears pinning. This foreign scent had sneaked up undetected, and he didn’t much appreciate such a trespasser in his lands, especially not another pup. But this boy seemed to think he was welcome, and after a stop he slowly made his way towards Kobato. What the actual fuck? Serris pulled back his kissers, a bloody snarl showing his discontent, but this lad didn’t get the message and soon he was next to the sick girl, mumbling words of concern. It was then that his snarl turned vocal, a great burst of menace pouring from him and his front lifted slightly from the terra, shifting to place his fore as a shield from the stranger. He would not stand for this. The death of a packmember was a terrible thing, but the murder of a nosy little pup would cause little stir. As an afterthought the lad rose to regard Serris, offering some pitiful explanation as to his trespasses. Did he look like he cared for an explanation right now? He was already on edge, swaying dangerously between calm and insane, Kobato his pivot point. “You will not have many more days upon this earth if you continue to trespass upon my land, whelp. This place holds no welcome for you.” His words were harsh and cutting, but Serris really couldn’t deal with this right now, not with everything else that was rushing through his nerves. Protect; that was the primal instinct of an Alpha, and that was the only voice that spoke to Serris now.
