Ice Mountain

The Ice Mountain is much smaller than Wolf Mountain, yet climbing up it is far more difficult and shouldn't be attempted in winter. Some creatures collect the shiny stones at the peak of this mountain for necklaces.

The phoenix was bored, not that he'd ever admit to such a thing. An immortal creature ought to be immune to boredom. After all, they'd have to deal with infinitely more of it that most beasties. The truth of the matter, though, was that it wasn't so much an immunity they developed as it was a tolerance. Garuda could tolerate boredom, certainly, but that didn't make the experience any better.

The most important thing for a bored immortal was self-control. The greatest danger of boredom lay not in the feeling itself, but in the actions on might take to alleviate that feeling. It was entirely possible to go mad with boredom, especially for an immortal.

The vast majority of his time on Wolf Mountain had been spent in seclusion. Oh, he'd participated in a war or two, and it had been fun, but were such indulgences really worth his time?

Garuda's problem was that he thought of himself as something of a god, but he had nothing to measure up to. What was worth the time and effort of an undying bringer of death?
It was an existential crisis of sorts which he'd been pondering for quite a long time.

But for now, there was boredom to relieve. Silently, the crimson phoenix fluttered up to the jagged peak of the mountain, then rose above it. Blazing as brightly as he could, Garuda began flying slow circles around the frozen pinnacle, watching in satisfaction as the ice caught and reflected his fire. After the top of the mountain was wholly ablaze with his light, Garuda settled again. Someone would have seen that. Whether or not the sign was recognized for what it was, someone would be curious. He would wait and see who came. Perhaps someone would win a prize tonight... assuming they did not fall and perish in the effort.
