Perhaps Serris was being too harsh. But once one’s emotions had been revealed, there was no way to hide their true extent. Alleria knew his disappointment. It was her fault, though , for bringing this upon herself; Serris did not command her to go off and sleep with another. The regal waited for a response to his question that really was more like a statement. Either a sarcastic reply or a groveling apology would come. There was no middle ground, as she was either at one end of the spectrum or the other. In the silence he cracked his neck, releasing a knot that lay sleeping there, but as the sound rang out he saw a flash of light fall to the terra. A star, fallen from the heavens? No, the now damp pinpoint of earth told him otherwise. But one lip raised in response to the tear, showing he wasn’t moved by that pitiful show. If she was going to cry about then she could’ve considered the consequences before having her fun. The old Serris was back, cruel and calculating, any thoughts of Kobato and her warmth far from his mind. He was Alpha, damn it, and he expected a whole lot more from those who called themselves part of his pack. But somewhere, his heart throbbed.
The midnight beast didn’t see her take a step, didn’t see the trembling in her frame, the despair on her scent. All he caught was a flash of white and the sound of defeat as Alleria’s mass hit the ground. His head was snapped out of its delusion and he took a worried step towards the femme. His features softened, eyes not quite as harsh, banner not quite as stiff over his spine. Many times in his life he had killed, without thought or remorse. But at that moment, it was as if Serris had just watched a death, caused it really, and now his chest erupted in flame. No matter her decisions, she was still his family. He had promised that, as Alpha of this great land. And here he was, a murderer and a traitor to his word. His gaze fell quickly to the side, lips pulling tight as he tried to hide his emotions. Damn that Kobato, turning him into some soft-hearted creature.
Shaking his skull, Serris carefully padding up to his mistress, glancing down at her fallen silhouette. “Get up, my love. I do not wish to deny you of your home.” His lyrics were quiet, holding none of their former harshness. Then he lowered his maw, grasping the scruff of Alleria’s neck as he had witness many mothers do to their young. Not only was this Serris’s broken attempt at comfort, it was also a sort of claiming over the vixen. She was his; they had agreed upon this arrangement when she submitted to him at the borders and he welcomed her into his home. There are truly not many things stronger than an Alpha’s love for his subjects. And so he helped her up, pulling up her neck and then positioning his shoulder beneath hers to stabilize her ascent. Once she was standing he would release his grip, and the brute was prepared to try as many times as it took to get her on her feet.
