^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ The pale femme rolled her eyes at Terrel’s teasing, a dancing laughter echoing around the pair. “Let’s home it doesn’t come to that,” she responded as they discussed fighting off potential monsters. Monsters were creatures from stories parents would tell their pups to get them to behave, stories that wolves no longer believed one hitting their teenage years. However, they were also the stories that stuck; the frightening ones that taught a young wolf morals. When entering a dark place with an eerie atmosphere those came back to mind and the possible existence of a monster slammed into you. Mae knew there was no such thing as the mythical creatures she’d been warned against, but that didn’t mean larger, violent creatures didn’t exist out there. Large wolves and bears could sometimes be found lurking in the shadows waiting for an ignorant animal to stumble upon them. The pair moved on, deeper into the cave amidst the sarcastic comments delivered in teasing tones, enjoying one another’s company. They sat soon after that and the male’s past came up, evidently a delicate subject so she tried not to press him for information. She was glad he was beginning to trust her enough to even mention it, so was sure that if he ever fully opened up it’d come with time. Their silence was comfortable for a while, the only disturbance an occasional dripping coming from soaked pelts and the faint howling of the wind as it swept through the cavern. Soon the cold and wet were too much and an involuntary shiver ran through Mae, the droplets of water flying in all directions. She muttered an apology to Terrel, who assured her it was okay, before they decided to move on. It was too cold for the femme to simply sit or stand there, and she was glad his preference was to move on. She grinned brightly as Terrel invited her to join him as he slunk off further into the cavern, following him after a moment. Her fur was beginning to lose its completely soaked appearance, small drier patches present, and her tail no longer looked like it belonged to a mouse. She bounded a few steps forward until she was beside him, ears lowering as she glanced around. “I wonder if there are multiple tunnels,” she thought out loud, not wanting to get lost, “Have you got a good memory?” She glanced to the side with a questioning look at the male. For now the path seemed to head straight into the darkness, but there could be tunnels branching off in the shadowed corners that they wouldn’t know about until they turned back and couldn’t find their way out. Mae glanced behind them to see the light in the distance, only just noticing how dark it really was in the section they were heading through. Her tail lowered a little with nerves about the unknown that lay ahead, but her ears perked up in curiosity. She glanced over to Terrel, wondering what he thought as they dared to head into the darkness. She fell back ever so slightly, happier letting him lead them on. She wasn’t so much frightened as apprehensive, but now that they were moving she wanted to know what lay ahead. Perhaps they’d find an old pack’s territory, or a grave yard of bones; a wide lake still and untouched for years, or a patch of grass barely alive but sustained by the light filtering through the gaps above them. The possibilities were endless. “Do you think anybody knows the full layout of this place, all the secrets it hides?” she whispered. ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ |
