How lonely is the night without the howl of the wolf?

The atmosphere around the pair was starting to become more relaxed than it had been previously. It was obvious that the lad was beginning to feel more comfortable around her and Channing couldn’t help but feel rather happy. She couldn’t quite understand why she felt so happy about the fact that a brute that she had only just met felt comfortable around her, but the feeling was building in her gut with every smile or every time the brute relaxed. She had only ever felt this way once before, the day she had met Shadow. She tried to shake him from her thoughts. He was no longer here or in her life and she had to concentrate on the present, on Henadin.

Her amber gems focused on the smile that seemed to grow as she asked if he would like to walk with her. He proceeded to nod before pausing and opening his jaws to speak. In all honesty Channing had expected him to carry out the silence that had fallen on the pair so many times before, but instead his voice carried across the terra. Although his lyrics were still jerky and broken, he agreed to the walk the lass had suggested and took a moment to ready himself. In this time, Channing hurried to the river and quenched her thirst; returning just in time for the lad to finish his stretch. He returned his attention to her before she noticed his eyes gazing round the surroundings just as she had done previously.

Her audettes swivelled as the lad’s voice filled the air once again, although this time they flowed smoothly and there were no breaks in the sentence. Channing smiled as his question entered the atmosphere. Never before had someone used the title ‘my lady’ towards her and in all honesty she felt flattered. She was so used to being a mother and a friend that when it came to compliments and spending time doing the things she wanted to do, it felt strange. The timber hued ess had gathered that family meant a lot to Henadin, especially his sister, and that she respected. It was sometimes hard for wolves to understand why Channing did so much for Terrel but Henadin did exactly the same for Kahlan. The femme was glad she had found someone who valued family as highly as she did. “I think I could get used to being called that.” She giggled softly hoping to re assure him that she had not minded the title he had bestowed on her. She parted her jaws once again and let her voice slip easily from her throat answering the brute’s question. “I’m not too sure, but it looks peaceful over there.” She gestured with her muzzle and eyes to a patch further up stream, where no wolves crowded it.

“Shall we?” Her pistons began to move slowly towards the patch she had chosen. She hoped that Henadin would walk with her and they could continue their conversation. Her athletic limbs moved over the terra with ease, her paws- a lot smaller than his, carefully treading on the dirt trying not to make a sound. It wasn’t because she was hunting, just simply because it was habit. Channing had spent months on her own, working on her hunting skills and now it seemed that she was as quiet as a mouse without even meaning to be. A strange sensation filled the ess as they walked. Although she had experienced something like this before, the emotion seemed to be stronger this time. It was sort of like butterflies in her stomach and a constant happiness that she couldn’t get rid of. She turned her cranium to look at her companion making sure he was keeping up, not that she was walking that fast. A slight breeze ruffled the femme’s fur and as it did, the faint smell of Terrel worked its way to her nares. The happiness that had filled her whole body started to disappear as the thought of her son stuck within her mind. How was he going to cope with the fact that she had spent time with Henadin. Of course he wouldn’t know right now but when she returned home surely the male’s scent would be intertwined with hers and vice versa. She wasn’t even sure what was going to happen between herself and Henadin. She knew the feeling she had but what about Henadin? Did he feel the same? Of course if anything did happen she would tell Terrel immediately but how would he take it? The lass tried her hardest to shake the thoughts from her head. She was happy right now and she didn’t want to be the one to spoil the conversation but she was so worried about losing her son that she couldn’t help but worry.

The vixen let her cranium drop as she tried to hide the worry on her features from the brute. She hadn’t even told him about Terrel yet and she didn’t want him worrying about things that weren’t here now. After wiping the despair off her face she lifted her cranium slowly and turned to look at the gray brute, a forced smile working its way onto her kissers.
