At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

Kal smiled, glad that his new friend was not a naïve wolf. The brute released a deep breath, and felt like a heavy weight was off of his shoulders. She was well aware of the way that the world worked and it would be much more difficult for any ill-wishing wolf to con her. It was a good start. He would still worry about her well-being… but it was good to know that she was smart.

As the brute thought it would, a devilish grin worked its way upon the fae’s kissers when he asked her to promise him to never mention the name ‘gal-pal.’ His auditories swiveled toward her as she spoke, his nickname changed to ‘Kally-Pally’ for her monologue before she explained that she could not keep that promise, but that she would keep it quiet for the time being. Seeing as she was spending her time with only him currently, it was not very reassuring… it left her open to being able to spread news of the brute named ‘Gal-pal’ as soon as Leila left Kalgalath’s company. Still, the brute allowed his maw to open and a small chuckle escaped. “I expected such an answer from you, dear Leila. It was something you could never promise to hide. I suppose I shall have to live with it. Still…Gal-Pal? Ugh…” The brute shook his head, the image of Kong’s face laughing at him popping into his head once more. His icy gaze focused upon her once more, just in time to see her wink at him again with a smirk. “You love seeing me suffer don’t you dear?” Kal’s words were light and said in a joking manner, so that the fae would not take them the wrong way.

After Kal explained why she didn’t need a nickname, Leila simply said thank you, which caught the brute’s attention. It was the shortest monologue the fae had spoken up to this point… a simple two short words. Why had her speech been so short? The brute fell silent, thoughtful. And then it came to him – this was the first time he had complimented her throughout their dialogue. She was naturally flirtatious and had been throwing compliments at him constantly (albeit in an innocent manner), but the brute was different than she. He had been silent in the way of flattery… and this one compliment, about the beauty of her name, had knocked the fae relatively silent. His grey plume swayed back and forth, a bit of pride creeping into his being at the thought of him having the ability to affect Leila in such a manner.

The fae’s regular exuberance returned when their talk turned to the pack lands, promising to at least visit the terra where he resided at some point. The brute released yet another sigh of relief when Leila promised to keep her distance from Malignant Felicity and Abendrot. It was one less thing that the brute would worry about when it came to her. But after her words, a small silence fell between the two of them, and the brute waited as it seemed that the fae was contemplating about what to say next. Her next set of words surprised the brute – she asked what ten things he feared the most, with promises to offer forth her ten biggest fears in return.

That is quite the personal question… and ten is a large number. I’ll offer forward a few, but not that many. I fear the position of alpha, and that I shall not live up to their expectations should I be voted in. I fear failing my pack and that it shall fall to the wayside. I fear that I shall be forever alone. I fear having the inability to someday have a family that will match the one that I was raised in.” Kalgalath fell silent, not knowing what else to say, feeling strangely vulnerable for the first time in years. His orbs averted themselves, waiting for a few of the fae’s own fears to be revealed.
