aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Magic smiled at him with a gleam in her eyes as she answered him. Hello, Kal. I have to agree, this evening is quite wonderful. The brute was glad to note that when she addressed him, she had used his nickname, as his friends so often did. It had first been given to him by King Kong when they had first met, but now it was commonplace to him for it to be used. Focusing back on the fae as she spoke, Kal’s cranium tilted to the side, curious about the manner of the femme. “Do you prefer to sleep while the sun holds reign over the sky, Magic? While I do agree with you that the night holds such beauty, it is my preferred time for sleeping.” The brute chuckled at his own words – here he was, up and about during the dead of the night whilst speaking of using the night for sleep. A bit of a contradiction…

Magic leapt from the boulder, moving from a position above him to an equal ground. Though he appreciated the gesture, Kalgalath merely smiled at her. The brute surely knew many Alphas that would have no wolf higher than themselves… but was it not the ones that had to fight so dearly to secure their position the ones who were in fact the least secure in their positions? That was the way Kalgalath looked at it at least… if he had to force his reign upon anyone, he really didn’t have much power. And so as Kal spoke, Magic nodded, and responded in kind. I would very much like that. I feel that it is necessary and that it should take place rather soon, and I am happy you are sharing this evening with me. I think Glitch went off to think or see new things with his own eyes. I tend to do that myself sometimes, as like right now. The fae switched her body to a sitting position and smiled at him. “I am glad that you feel that it is necessary, for those are my feelings as well. I feel that I should know all of our packmates rather well, if we are going to pull this pack back to life.” His words were inclusive, describing the way that he truly felt. The pack was a cohesive unit, and although he was the leader of it, they all had to work together in order to get the best results. “Just as I should like to get to know you better, I should also like to get to know Glitch better, so if you see him before I do, please inform him of this. I do not want any strangers among us.” Kal’s words were spoken with a friendly smile.

The fae then spoke, continuing on the conversation. Her words were an inquiry as to his friendship with King Kong – how the friendship began. The brute smiled, quite willing to tell of their tale. “Many years ago, when I first came to Blossom Forest, I thought that I didn’t want to belong to a pack, but then I met a fae.” Kal paused and inhaled deeply…this was the first that he had spoken of her since he had left Blossom Forest, and that was a tale he was not willing to tell. “Anyway… she convinced me to join Munashii Gekko with her, and at that point King Kong was the Beta male of that pack, not this one. He was the one that accepted me. He put in my care a pup named Aindreas, who a fae named Casey had brought to the pack. I raised Aindreas to be a warrior, and taught him that loyalty was the most important trait for a lupine. But then, the fae left. And so did I…I suppose Aindreas left to, for when I returned, his scent was gone from that pack. Upon my return, I came upon Kong’s scent and followed it here, to Blossom Forest. I have always been loyal to him, and he has always been loyal to me.” Although the story was the shortened version, leaving out many of the details, such as the apparent fall of Munashii Gekko, he felt that it was a sufficient history of his friendship with Kong.

A tinge of blood was on the night breeze along with the scent of fresh lupines on the boundary. It reminded the Alpha of the new arrivals. “Back to reviving the pack… I have some good news. We have some new arrivals at the boundary’s edge. A fae, named Leila who I met a few days ago, and a pup named Tyson.” The brute cringed as the memory of the pup’s thin form returned to his mind’s eye. “I can smell a bit of blood on the night air… is there a chance that you made a kill recently? The pup… well let me put it this way. The pup is skin and bones. He will need to learn to hunt for himself at some point, but he hasn’t the energy to hunt right now. All that he needs now is nutrition, and a few free meals. Would you be willing to share your meal with him? He is little and will not eat much.” The brute’s eyebrows raised hopefully. If the fae did not want to share with the pup, there would be no hard feelings – Kal would simply hunt and get a meal for the pup himself.
