News 08.08.2021
Change was long overdue in Spirane. Now that I have learned who is still an active presence within the pack, the ranks have been updated. As I once took time away from the pack, so too now shall Kalseru. Know that she is still second in command of the pack, as is reflected in her rank. Once you are familiar with the new ranking system, if you would like to change positions or move up in the ranks you need only ask. Let this be a time of new life in Spirane, and a promise of great things to come!

When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies, but the pack survives.

Alcide’s pelt held a warmness that it had not felt in months. This heat was different from that which he experienced when lying next to MoonGlow, or the friction generated from toned muscles put to use in the hunt. This was the first rays of the Spring sun soaking into his hide. However, the warmth of the day was beginning to recede with the sun’s descent from the sky as it dipped behind the mountains he called home.

Dark eyes watched the horizon, studiously watching the silhouettes of birds dancing on the breeze. This was not the idle bird watching of an elder though. One avian amongst the flock that flitted across the sky was larger, and her movements more graceful than the rest. Orba – MoonGlow’s forever companion. The white raven was as much a part of his imprint as was the dark stripe that ran down her beautiful back. A smile tugged at the very corners of the male’s maw at the thought of the raven. It had taken him a long time to win the bird’s favor – even now she still had her trepidations about his presence. And even when she got on his nerves, it was reassuring to know that no matter what, Orba would always have eyes on the priestess.

The behemoth crossed his paws and rested his head thereon. But he never took his eyes off of the dancing avian. He breathed deeply, willing his body and mind to relax. True, spring had arrived. And yes, they had copulated early on during the autumn months. But that did not mean that at the first flower’s blossom his mate would give birth to their second litter. A small litter, MoonGlow had reassured him. She was certain it was only one pup, and Alcide trusted her motherly – and shamaness – instincts. Surely he just needed to relax, breath a bit.

Suddenly he realizes that Orba no longer dances among the other birds. She has vanished from his sight, and his eyes searched the horizon. Why would she have abandoned her flight so abruptly? Perhaps it was his heightened senses, constantly on edge as the days grew longer and MoonGlow’s abdomen grew larger, but something just didn’t feel quite right. Alcide immediately rose to his paws, waiting not a moment longer to see if Orba would rejoin the flock. He takes off at a lope, covering the distance to the Queen of his Heart’s cavern, where she and Ceal had been tirelessly preparing for the newest addition of their family to join them.

As he drew near, he slowed to a walk, listening carefully for sounds from within the den. He could hear his Moonie struggling, but a simple glare from Orba told him it was not yet time for him to join his love. And so he retreated slightly to an overhang that was just behind and above the cave’s mouth, hidden within the dense branches of the mountainside forest. There, he took up a rhythmic pacing. He moved back and forth along the length of the overhang, eyes always watching the ledge for any sign or sound of change.

It is hours later when Orba ruffles her wings and the brute takes this as some subtle sign that he may approach. But even as he descends from his perch, another form moves to the cavern and dares to enter before he. Without thought, Alcide’s hackles bristled and a growl formed in his throat as he stepped forward, ears pressed flat against his skull and teeth bared momentarily before he realizes that it is, in fact, their son Swallowbane come to greet his newest sibling. Still, the kingly beast steps forward and blocks his entrance to the den. His ears press forward in a kind manner as the fur along his shoulder’s lays flat once more, and father touches son upon the shoulder in a simple gesture that asked the boy to wait.

He then turned away from Swallowbane and entered the cavern, even as the lilting melody of MoonGlow’s words reaches his ears. “and the stars christened you, Daenerys,” she said. Massive paws move him forward as he lowers his head nearly to the floor, trying to get a peek at their child. “A beautiful name, my love,” he says in uncharacteristically soft tones. Tones that were reserved for her ears alone. Finally he reaches her, and buries his nose in her fur, damp from the energy she had spent on the birth. And then his eyes rest upon the bundle of baby fur nestled at his imprint’s belly. Stark silver fur blinds him by its beauty, and yet even as she squirms to get a better drink, black peeps out from beneath the bright gray. “Stunning,” is the only word that he can find, and his heart swells with immense pride. Circling her, he takes his place next to her, his form curling around hers in a protective and loving manner. He can tell she is exhausted from the effort, her breathing slightly labored. Touching his nose to her cheek affectionately, he hopes that she knows she may now take the rest she needs. After all, he was here to protect her and cater to her every need or desire. She knew this, even if she would not ask it of him.

Glancing back toward the cave’s mouth, he hoped that he had not drove Swallowbane away. This was a time for family, and surely he wanted to meet his new little sister, the star princess of Spirane. He uttered a low bark of sorts, inviting his son to join them, before turning his gaze back upon the love of his life, and the bundle of joy that rested at her side.
