aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

With Kal's instructions fresh in my mind, I head to a spot near the eastern edge of the border, the closest area to the hunting plateau. He told me to bring along some adults with the pups so I need to see if there are any volunteers before we go. I figure Magic or Glitch both will come with their puppy. Perhaps a few new members as well? Then I'll be catching two birds with one stone. He did ask me to get to know some of the other pack members. I sigh, hoping I'm up for this. My chest still aches with every morning I wake up and Akina isn't here. My head hurts from all the tossing and turning, the nightmares in my sleep. My eyes are dimmer than usual but there's still light. I found a new purpose to keep me going until she returns. Zig needs someone to look out for her. She seems to be growing fond of Kal but I don't know if he returns the affection and until I do, I intend to watch out for her. I don't want to see her get hurt. I can't consider giving my heart to someone else, not with Akina gone. It's just not the way I'm built. I haven't fallen for someone since my mate Juno back in the valley. I thought she was the one, the mother of my future children, the keeper of my heart. But it all backfired when I came back victorious from a challenge to find my pack had turned on me, embraced another male as their leader while I was distracted with his brother. It was all part of an elaborate plan. This male had been meeting with my mate secretly, meeting the other pack members and gaining their support. Not their support for me had ever seemed shaky but he promised them things, things of violence and bloodshed, things I would never allow. There were ones who left, ones who supported my ways, but they were long gone before I got there, evidence of some still tangled in the brush and grass at the pack's feet. Blood, fur, muscle tissue, you name it. I ran across a dead wolf on my way out of there, my good friend Hugo. He was my go to man for everything and I respected and trusted him. Seeing him there with his guts halfway out of his body, it set my nerves on fire, but I knew that I wasn't wanted there so I left the pack behind and somewhere along the way, I gave into the darkness that haunts my soul. Now I'm back to being sane, for the time being, and I'm depending on wolves like Kal and Zig to keep me this way while the darkness eats away at my soul every night, at my resistance. I wake up every day thankful that I survived the night, that I didn't wake up a monster. Once I reach a suitable area, I tilt my head back and send out a commanding howl to the puppies and any volunteers that would wish to come with me on the hunt. I call out the puppies by name, having done a little research to figure out as much. It's hunting time. Now all that's left to do is wait.
