The Cavern of Secrets holds much more than you can imagine. Once a forbidden place, the ban on entrance has been released...yet, is it a good idea to enter?

Once a great battle had been fought in this cavern, against a dark beast that had once - and still might - dwell here. No one knows where he disappeared to, but there are rumours...

The brute’s faint form disappeared from her sight with a splash below the water once more, though this time it clearly was not on his terms. As another wave of water flowed over her head, she tasted a faint tinge of blood. At first she thought that it must be her blood, but then the brute surfaced above the water and inhaled sharply. The fae managed to look down and the faint, eerie light showed her that the whole of the water was red – there was no way that her wound would have supplied enough blood for this – it must have come either from the brute that was struggling alongside her or from the fish that were below her. Was it possible that the fish were carnivorous? Was the brute injured? Or had he injured them as a warning to stay away? She could not tell and worry filled her that the brute may have been injured. Seriously injured.

But then his teeth closed upon her scruff and she realized that now was not the proper time to worry about him. Both of their lies were in danger and if she didn’t focus upon the present, they might not survive. Hold onto me. Athene couldn’t reach around to grasp onto him, so instead she focused upon reaching and finding a spot to hold onto on the rock walls. Her haunches powered her limbs and she kicked fiercely against the strengthening current. If the whirlpool grew too strong, it would soon not only be dangerous to be in the middle of the room because of the downward spiral, but it would also be dangerous to be near of the walls of the room because the sheer force of the whirlpool could smoosh them. It was a lose-lose situation. If the pair of them did not exit the cavern soon, they both would meet one of the two horrendous fates.

Their combined swimming efforts slowly inched them toward the rockface, and Athene’s claws immediately began to scratch at the wall, trying to get a foothold. The ferocious lapping waves had soaked the surface however, and so it was dangerously slippery. Finally, however, the fae found the staircase that the brute had used to descend the wall when she had fallen, and her legs powered her up them so that half of her body was out of the water. Athene turned around and grabbed the brute’s scruff, pulling him upward to try to aid him in gaining a foothold on the staircase, her bodice flattened against the wall to give him more room. However, the fae had not noticed the crack that existed between the staircase and the wall; though they were momentarily safe from the fish and the whirlpool, her paw was now stuck in the crevice, and she could not pull it loose. “Stuck is my paw, as if in an iron jaw. I can’t pull it free… you might have to leave me.” Rhyme had snuck back into her vocals, but her words were weary and full of dread. She did not want the brute to die alongside her if it came to that.
