The air is heavy as you make your way through unknown territory, as you pause to sniff the air a drop of rain falls onto your nose. It is soon followed by another and another and soon the rain is pelting down in sheets, soaking you to the bone. The clouds are an angry purple and the menacing drumming of thunder rolls over the sky. Squinting your eyes against the blinding water you find yourself at the edge of a large, dark pine forest. You are too desperate for shelter to notice the scents that mark the border and plunge in, and nearly into the chilly stream that runs through the territory. You veer away and as you are shaking the water out of your fur you notice a large pair of icy blue shards gazing at you. The storm has passed now and beams of sunlight filter through the thick canopy of pines, illuminating a massive male wolf not three feet away from where you stand.

His pelt looks like a bad patchwork job of black and white and beneath them you see large, hard bands of steely muscle and you know this is a warrior for his torso is marred with many battle scars. His banner curls over his back and his lips are drawn, exposing sharp ivory daggers. When he speaks his voice is deep and dominant, like the thunder you so recently heard.

"Wolf, you have found yourself in the terra of the Andere Seite Pack. I am Eclipse, king of this land."

It is only then that you notice another pair of lanterns gleaming in the penumbra and a dark-pelted fae slinks out into the clearing to stand next to the king, her own banner waves and her green and blue eyes bore into you. She is the same size as most males and a crisscrossing pattern of scars show that she too can take care of herself. Her voice is cold and has a snake-like sound to it yet you can see they are both fair rulers.

"And I am Nephthys, queen of Andere. We don’t care much for strangers so you must make your choice, Submit to us now or flee our lands and never return. If you fail to do either you will have little time left to regret it."

The formidable pair pierces you with their gaze and you feel as if all your secrets spill out before them. You are left with a decision now. Will you submit and take refuge in this dark forest or will you flee and never know what secrets these trees hide? Make haste, you can see that the pair grow tired of waiting.

look at this . . . I’m a coward too

There was blood on his pelt—and it wasn’t from prey.

Skrillex felt his heart slam against his ribcage as he sprinted, paws flying madly over leaf-strewn terrain and muscles on fire beneath electrified skin. He hadn’t meant to hurt her—he never meant to hurt anybody—so why was his chest and his muzzle and his tongue stained hot red? Frantically, feverishly, Skrill tried to think of what had happened in those last few lusty seconds before his mind turned off and his teeth turned on her. Had she asked for it? Hadn’t she been begging for him to be rough with her? A hysterical giggle bubbled from the ivory wolf’s throat like the ending notes of a sob. If that was what the poor lass wanted, she got her wish. He’d been plenty rough. Someone would only have to smell the damp iron painted across his pelt to know that.

“I’m sorry,” the haunted dog muttered despairingly under his breath. The words fell choppy and breathless from his maw, pounded out as his feet continued to drum the earth. Skrillex had to run. He had to escape. No one could know what he did, or they’d . . . no. Never again. The masked marauder had promised himself that he would never willingly repeat what had happened in his old pack. His handsome fur covered the horrendous scars laced over his flesh, yet they were still there, merciless reminders that warned Skrill what would happen if committed another innocent sin. MONSTER! The word screamed voicelessly in his memories. Agony over his entire body, though nothing compared to the horrified soul-deep ache in his heart. MURDERER! HEARTHLESS, VILE, MINDLESS BEAST!!!

Ahead: the scent of a pack wall. Skrill hadn’t wanted to join a pack—he didn’t deserve the honor. Nobody could trust him! He needed to change his course! The white warrior let out a desolate whine—and then crashed to the ground as his foreleg caught carelessly on a wickedly curved root. His balance was torn out from underneath him—his chest collided with hard soil—his shoulders and back and limbs thudded heavily with breathtaking impact as the wolf rolled violently to a stop, the path of his fall marked in a jagged line of shattered forest debris and skids in the dirt. Twigs and branches and dead leaves crackled and snapped in a cacophony of wreckage. Skrillex lay still for a while, utterly dazed. Acid green eyes blinked at nothing. His own stuttering heartbeat woke him from the momentary trance, mocking him from within its cage of bone. Of course he was still alive: one humiliating trip wouldn’t erase the torment of his ridiculous life. He would have to live with every unnatural act he’d ever done until something finally decided to put him out of his misery. A deep sigh dragged from Skrillex’s battered lungs. Dust clung to the sticky scarlet matting his coat; now he was rightfully covered in filth.

Covered in filth . . . and much too close to the border of whatever kingdom this was for comfort.

Now feeling a searing surge of fear, Skrillex attempted to roll his weight onto his forelegs and stretch into a standing position. A sharp gasp hissed from between his teeth as he did so. His thoughtless blunder had thrown him within yards of the border—and damaged him in the process. It felt as if his chest had cracked. A few aching experimental breaths informed Skrill that he hadn’t broken anything, but the muscles around his shoulders felt torn, bruises already sinking into the tissue. A quick escape was out of the question. Hopefully no wolf heard him and decided to investigate . . .
