At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

ic; As he stepped back, she took the opportunity to give him a scan over. It was definitely the handsome devil himself, and it didn't seem like much had changed. At least not physically. As her golden eyes cast themselves over him, he suddenly leaned forward and gave her nose an impromptu kiss. It startled her a little, and tickled her, and so she responded by twitching her nose and giggling. She had missed moments like this. She smiled apologetically at his next statement. Honestly she wanted to do more than just apologize. Wished she knew what to do. She knew by watching and listening to him that he was happy, but she also knew that the word 'miserable' hadn't been chosen as a joke. All she could do was stand there and be happy with him in this moment, because she didn't know how to fix what had broke when she'd left. He moved to stand next to her and leaned into her. Zelda loved the feeling. It felt right, being beside him like this. Like this is how it should always be.

He began his next set of dialogue with the words 'I love you' and she could feel her stomach flutter. This was the only wolf she had ever been this close with, the only one that she had heard those words from. In her younger days those words might have made her run off again, but not now. She loved him too, and she wasn't scared this time. With his next words, he set up her opportunity to tell him what she had to say. He left her side and went and retrieved something, from the looks a rabbit he hunted, and she smiled at the irony. She'd have to tell the story behind that smile another time. As he went and came back, she took the time to think of what to say. Where did she even start? She could keep it simple, tell the initial reason she left and why she felt so entirely different now. But no, she didn't want to keep it simple. She'd always been like that with everyone, even him, and that needed to change. She wanted to be completely open with him. If Hex was the wolf she wanted to be around for the rest of her life, then he deserved to know everything.

“Well...”

She began when he returned and sat beside her, nuzzling against her. She loved the feeling, but remained concentrated on what she'd been saying. She had begun speaking so softly, which was unusual for her. She also chose to sit, following suit with him. During the first part of the confession she spent most of the time watching her paws, too ashamed of hurting him to look at Hex. When she had left, it was when they were getting ready to have her become a permanent resident at his pack, Saw Tooth. She figured that was as good a place to start as any.

“Being part of a pack... the idea of it got to me, and I got skittish. See, I haven't been in a pack since I left home, er, my original home.” She felt that it was important to emphasis that she considered this home now. Wherever Hex was, that was home. “And that wasn't a happy time. And so I associated living in a pack with that bad time in my life, and I could never ask you to leave Saw Tooth. So I left. I thought it might be easier, and I was intimidated of living in a pack. At first I wasn't going to leave Blossom Forest, but I didn't want you to come looking for me so I went on. Nowhere in particular for a while, just a forest that lays a few hours outside of Blossom.”

She took a shaky breath, nervous about going on. Zelda was so used to not letting people in that it made her uncomfortable to become so transparent. As she carried on, she didn't leave any pauses. If she paused she knew she might stop talking completely, and that wasn't the point.

“Eventually I just became so angry. I was stuck out in some desolate patch of trees away from a wolf I cared deeply about because of an experience that had nothing to do with you. That wasn't good enough... I couldn't keep letting my past interfere with my future, and so I needed closure. I sought out my old pack, to find my parents. To get answers, you know? See, when I was a pup my father was a real terrible guy. He was the leader of a pack, but I suppose it's only because he was strong. I can't imagine him being a popular wolf. Anyways, he got his kicks beating my siblings and me. Not badly enough to kill us or anything. And my brother got it worse than I did, had his paw broken twice by the time we turned one. My mother cared for our injuries but she never tried to stop it. The day my brother and I turned two, he tried to challenge our father. He was an idiot, but he'd been pushed too far I guess. Our father killed him during that fight, and the next day my mother kicked me out. Her way of protecting me, I guess. And I hadn't been back since. So I went looking, and I found the place but there were no recent scents. No signs of them being killed or anything, I just assumed he moved the pack. So with no way to get real closure, I to make a choice. A choice that, if I had made it the moment I'd come to Blossom, would have saved us both a lot of heartache. I had to just let it go... it's not important anymore.”

Everything she had said had been in a more 'matter of fact' sort of way instead of getting emotional. Zelda wasn't the type to get negatively emotional over things if she could help it, and like she said, she was moving on. She gave a small smile at those last words, and finally looked back up at Hex.

“So here I am. Ready to join your pack and be part of your life, if you'd let me. I hope you can forgive me for leaving you so suddenly... it won't happen again.”

This time she initiated the contact between them, snuggling into his side.

“I love you too, by the way.”
