aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Loyalty means nothing unless it has at its heart the absolute principle of self-sacrifice

The brute spun around quickly as a gust of displace air alerted him to a presence behind him. No other sign had given him warning, for the approach had been silent and the wind pressing against him so that whoever had crept up on him was upwind. His lids slitted just slightly, his hackles started to raise themselves, but when his icy gaze fell upon the fae, he relaxed immediately, his plume softening into a gentle sway and a smile coming to lay upon his kissers. His auds flickered toward her as her claws stopped her rapid approach and a yelp escaped from her maw almost involuntarily. Her kissers sheepishly turned upward and then they were opening, her lyrical vocals ringing out into his auds. I’m real sorry, Kal. I had been tracking you and before I knew it here you were. The mottled fae chuckled nervously before inhaling deeply. Kalgalath shook his head, not bothered at all by what had happened. His mind had been elsewhere; had he been focused, perhaps he would not have been startled as such. “No apology is necessary, dear Zig. I was not paying attention, hence my startle. I am glad to see you, I trust you have...” The brute’s short monologue was cut off as she continued with her own speech, his vocals silencing themselves when hers rang out.

Like I said, I was looking for you. I just wanted to talk to you about that incident before the meeting. I know you think that I’m still all loyal to Sin in my heart and stuff but really I just wanted to make it clear that that’s not what it was. I just miss her. The idea of her, the way she ruled, that’s all I got left, Kal. And I don’t really know how to let go, you know? So I didn’t really mean what I said, I just really miss her. And Kal, I hope you know I’ll follow you wholeheartedly because… becauseIthinkIloveyou. Her jaw slammed shut really quickly after her outburst, her ambers searching his arctics to measure his reaction. The brute felt as if he had swallowed his tongue – he didn’t know what to say. Conflicting emotions coursed through his veins, both a sweet warmth and a cold tingle. The side of him that had feelings for Zig was overjoyed that the emotions were reciprocated, but the logical part of his brain was screaming out warning signs. And so since he was conflicted as such, his tongue worked out something to say all by itself. “So are you happy with you rank.” The mottled grey and black titan felt as if he could smack himself across the face, all claws unsheathed. Here this fae had gone and confessed to having feelings for him and THAT was the best he could come up with. “I’m sorry.” He shook his head to try to clear out all of his jumbled thoughts, and sense began to creep back in. “I have feelings for you, I do. I have not been overly subtle about that, but… there is a slight complication. I’m sure you heard or picked up on the scent of a group of wolves at the border. Well, I know them. Not well. Well not all of them. One of them. But the others…

The brute coughed, realizing what a horrible job he was doing at explaining himself. He had never been good at expressing himself, especially after she – Nika – had left him heartbroken and alone all those years ago. Kalgalath had been raw and hurting for a long while afterword, and with her return he found that those old scars were opening up and hurting as if they were new injuries. And he had always kept quiet about his personal issues…but Zig deserved to know the truth, even if it hurt her. “Zig… a long time ago I had a love, much as you had a love for Cody. She left me suddenly and without warning. Her name was Nika… she is the one at the border. It turns out that when she left me, she was with child. Three, to be exact. And they are all here – grown up of course. I swear I didn’t know she was going to be coming back. I just… I just…” But no words of wisdom or explanation could make their way to his kissers.

How could he explain what it was that he was feeling? Like he was being ripped in half with conflicting desires. The remnants of his feelings for Nika, a comfortable yearning, a wondering of “what-ifs” and “could have been”. And then the new excitement of a fresh crush, new feelings. Thoughts of “could-bes” and future possibilities. And to top it all off, there was little Blayre, who would need almost constant care and attention if she was going to grow up healthily. “Zig… I just don’t know what to do.
