He was a patient creature and she was a silent creature - already he found himself questioning which one of them would bend or break first. He'd never been that patient, a skill he'd only really acquired with the birth of his children, and it wasn't long before he'd begun to feel antsy about the situation. It seemed like forever between when he had addressed her and when she had spoken - simple words, cold and bleak. He cocked a brow but briefly, considering the words in silence. There was nothing he was able to say to such a statement. Yes, they had never intended to fail but it was simple... some were born not to lead. Few were born with the same domineering, obsessive need for the top position like himself and Caligula. Some believed they had such a streak but if they did not live and breathe for it, then it was merely that - a streak, whereas his entire being was dedicated to the cause.
Rather than quell or confirm her fears for the future, he merely remained silent, his eyes fixated on her. Let her come to her own conclusions, he figured. He had spent his whole life attempting to sway others - one day off would surely not end his world. Perhaps Caligula would have been better for this job. They could have communicated in a mutual silence, something that Tesseract was undoubtedly a poor contestant for.
"Salem," he repeated her name as he became seated, bowing his head just briefly before watching her. Nothing to say? Well, that was hardly going to be a productive conversation but he had sat, she had been here first and he owed it to her in a way.
"What did the Alphas of Glorall have you do before I came? Everybody has a role - what was yours?"
It was a simple question, one that he hoped would at least merit some kind of response. If it did not, he would leave her be - there was only so much he could do, after all. Perhaps he could try again, over and over, but for now, he was content being the one to bend.
